I appreciate Bartertown. I generally prefer Ebay because most of the things I sell/trade are high in dollar value, and I'm inherently distrustful of strangers. That said, I did make one trade on Bartertown for about $600 in merchandise, and it went smooth.

The only complaint I have about Bartertown is that you can't (or maybe people just don't) post pictures of what you're selling. You have to ask for them. It would be so much quicker if people just had a picture of what they were selling.

Sure you can just use img tags to imbed in your posts. I do it all the time.

That happens here and on other trading forums I frequent and it is a major source of confusion and amusement for me. I especially love when the seller is using the condition/paintwork of the models as a selling point and still refuses to provide pictures.

"Hey guys! Check out my PROPAINTED army. It is killer. Pics don't do it justice, and neither will I because I can't be bothered to post any images. E-mail me if you want. Or don't. Whatever... why am I on here again? Oh, yeah, to try and sell these mystery models. Seriously. The army looks great, but NO PICS FOR YOU!"

People are funny.

Another thing ive seen: people selling at msrp. Really? Youll give me a deal on those 10 primed white tacticals with bolters, 37 shipped? Gee thanks. Or just a couple dollars under the price. Its originally 53 but ill make you a deal, just pay 47 plus shipping. Come on now.
Me if i ever sell on bartertown and not just buy or trade, youll get a deal, NIB, NOS it doesnt matter.

Heh. Pricing is a pretty funny subject. People list stuff for crazy prices on BT, eBay, Dakka, craigslist, etc. I will sometimes PM people and see if they are serious but try not to argue with them if they are.

I've been on Bartertown since 2000ish? I'm not a heavy user, but I've certainly had a lot of good transactions there, and think it's great part of the community.

I scored one of the all-time great Bartertown deals about a decade ago. It was a guy's entire collection. Seven large cardboard boxes of stuff, including a ton of OOP models, for $175. We even lost a box's contents in transit and didn't care, LOL. I got a great start on my Genestealer Cult (see sig) from that deal. I also got a great deal on a Necron army years ago.

Having said that, some of what goes on there is people wanting 80% of retail for theirs but only offering 20% of retail for yours. Trades might be a little easier in that regard. You have to go in understanding that and having some patience. Ultimately it's a free site for the community and so there's nothing really to complain about.

Yeah there are traders that think that their minis are worth more because, well, they are theirs, dammit !

2nd hand market starts at 40% off MSRP. Anything else, and you're not getting the best deal you can if you are patient. I can get NIB for 30% off if i want to, so for used, it has to be a good deal. Trading retail to retail for mutually assembled minis on both parts of the trade is the easiest though.

The way to get good deals on bartertown is to *not* be the guy that hastahaveitnaowwwwwwww! The way you make a profit on bartertown is to find the guy that hastahaveitnaowwwwww - for whatever you have.

The real gem about bartertown is that you can find just about anything.

The amount of anti spam measures they make you to through as a new user is pretty annoying, especially when signing up on an iPhone.

I got a fairly awesome deal on BT once (not 7 large boxes for $175 though-that's fantastic). I got 10 mounted Diaz-nettes for $50. This was before the new plastic ones came out. Anyone playing daemons after GW discontinued those, but added them in the new book, knew they were regularly selling for $15 EACH, at minimum. Usually it was around $20 each. 10 should have cost me $200 at the current resale value. I got them for a quarter of that.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Sorry it's a pain. If you listen to the established members here and on the BT forums, though, you'll know how much better the members are off for having them.

That said, and I mean this in all seriousness, if you have any better ideas for Anti-spam, we're all ears. We'll never "p'shaw" a good idea, whether we ultimately use it or not.

Thanks.

Bartertown is probably the most trustworthy trade sites out there. They have an active community that looks out for its own and weeds out bad traders. Been there for about 15 years.

Read and follow the rules and ask any questions you need and you'll be fine.

Its extremely subjective. I had one guy setting the retail value of the original lictor at the current GW price, which is 2-3 models different from the current one(and in finecast value to boot). That was his value, but wasn't worth it to me.

I also see bartertown as helping the "community" or keeping it in the "family" of gamers at least. Im not a big fan of retail or retail prices from gamesworkshop, but I love the game and I love enabling people to play.
