I've had a quasi-Inquisitor as a part of my Tyranid army for ages. His name is Roubere Jouxapose, and he happens to be a special character termagant that I used in a campaign not long ago. Standard termagant statline aside from having +1 Ld, and he had a fun rule where you could pretty much never kill him. If his model was RFPAAC, you simply replaced the closest termagant model with him. If the unit that killed him has LOS to him, they had to take a leadership test at -1 (per time killed, cumulative) to not shoot at the new one. Was great having three dark angels tactical squads shooting at him for 3 turns straight!!

If I actually had any Inquisitors (and I probably will) they would be based on various of my DnD characters;
Kered Rose - Ordo Xenos - the greatest orator of his age, a consummate politician who sways with words rather than swords, but who has the combat prowess and bravery to lead a military sortie when necessary. However, he would provide the heart and soul of the operation and is intelligent enough to realise he should find someone else to provide the plan. Passionately anti-xenos. Wears golden power armour and carries a flaming sword. Appearances are somewhat reminiscent of most frescoes of the Divine Emperor. This is intentional.
Cofar Torvets - Ordo Hereticus - believed to have been killed over and over again, but returned to life by the Emperor himself to protect critical figures in the Imperium and slay those who have secretly turned to the ruinous powers. Has a pale, deathly pallour and eschews armour in favour of power field technology. Wields the Headsman's Axe Laughter's End and relies more on brute violence and divine guidance than intelligance. Nevertheless, has been proven correct in his assessment in posthumous investigations of all those he has slain.
Wigmore Cozenton-Hoath - Ordo Malleus - apparently a bumbling fool who dissembles and tricks those opposed to him into dismissing him as a buffoon, generally to their own cost. Even so, not quite as clever as he thinks he is, and may find to his own damnation that it is best not to try and trick daemons...
Justus Haven (later, Jurus Rex, later Jura Tyrus) - Ordo Hereticus - member of a family of highly placed imperial servants with a long tradition of providing puritan Inquisitors. His own gifts of intelligence, martial prowess and diligence marked him as the latest of the family to join the Inquisitorial ranks. However, this is not a path he has ever desired and is in the process of using his powers to carve himself a pocket empire. At some point, he would, of course, be exposed in a manner similar to Lugft Huron and go on to become a similar enemy of the Imperium.
Baltus - Ordo Malleus - An Inquisitor tainted by Daemon contact in previous generations, planted in the Inquisition without even he knowing that he was a sleeper agent. Now voices begin to whisper in his head... Has a special gift for running away to fight another day.
Of course, 99% of this would be irrelevant on the table top.

My inquisitor shall be named Divy the Prescient, since his entire job will be following the guardsmen around and buffing their shooting. He will be accompanied by Divy the Other, who is probably kind of the same. I'm sure they had a life before they were conscripted into the DKoK, but that doesn't really matter. A guardsman shouldn't lower himself to learning the names and personalities of his divination slave. They're all just replaceable anyway.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

I will be using Hector Rex from forgeworld as the model.
I have never really written much like this before, tell me what you think so far:
Inquisitor Lord Elias Lucifer, of the Emperor's Harbinger
Beginnings:
Elias was orphaned at an early age, on the Hiveworld of Minea. A passing Ordo Malleus Inquisitor, by the name of Thull, found Elias to have large psychic potential. Having just finished his business upon Minea, Thull observed Elias for several hours. After seeing much potential in Elias, Thull quickly took Elias in as his youngest Acolyte. After many years of intense training, Elias became Thull's most adept acolyte, preferring to use a power sword and storm shield in combat, exceeding Thull's expectations, and eventually, even relying on Elias' aid at times. During a battle with a greater demon of Nurgle, Thull fell in combat, leaving Elias to take up his Nemeis Force Sword, Raptor (meaning 'one who seizes' in High Gothic), and strike the demon down himself. Elias buried his old master on the spot, taking his masterfully crafted custom Artificer Power Armour and Raptor. Learning of Thull's fate, an Inquisitor Lord, who knew Thull closely, then promoted Elias Lucifer to the rank of Inquisitor of the Ordo Malleus, giving him the Rosette of the Imperial Inquisition, and placed Elias in charge of Thull's old retinue and ship, the Emperor's Harbinger.
Today:
Area under construction
Although fluffy wise he will be wearing Artificer Power Armour, and using a Storm Shield with Nemesis Power Sword, due to the options in the codex, he will just have Terminator armour with Storm Bolter and a Nemesis Deamon Hammer

Inquisitor Grendl Oriens of the Ordos Malleus is firmly in the camp of the Radical, more precisely that of the Xanthism group. Like others in this group Oriens firmly believes that the use of Warp-spawned abilities and equipment the Imperium stands the best chance of victory over their enemies.
Inquisitor Hiroko would be considered by many of her contemporaries to be a Radical in the extreme, if they knew of her existence. Over her career Hiroko has spent no more than twenty of her ninety years of service inside the territories of the Imperium. She is a firm adherent to the Calixis Faction of the Xeno Hybris believers amongst the Ordos Xenos.
Inquisitor Tasetus is the epitome of everything the common people see in an Inquisitor. Fiery rhetoric, uncompromising standards, unflinching search for the truth and quite, quite, mad. Tasetus is very young by the standards of the Inquisition, but his devout and unflinching adherence to the Monodominant factions of the Inquisition saw him rise swiftly from disciple, to Interrogator to full blown Inquisitor. However, the rise in ranks has had an unforseen effect on the psyche of the young man.

Now that I understand what the Inquisition actually is in 40k lore, I think it'll be the glue that holds my faction and fluff together.
As for the models on the battlefield themselves, they'll have a variety of names. An Inquisitor basically rules the planet that my IG army inhabits, but I don't like throwing the leader of everything into random skirmishes where mortality rates are high. So, this inquisitor will have many (relatively) minor henchmen and students represented by the actual inquisitor models I make, which will then accompany the IG armies I field. Since I change all the characters when I switch lists, it will vary.

What someone online on the other side of the world that you've never met says should never deter you from taking a unit for being either weak or OP. The community is a great place to come for tactics advice, and there is a lot of very sound opinions and idea out there, but at the end of the day, play the game how you want to... Don't worry about the hordes of Dakka descending on your gaming club to arrest you for taking one heldrake or not using a screamerstar. Knowing the standard opinion (and that's all it is) on what is good/bad and conforming to that opinion religiously are two entirely separate things. |

Inquisitor ++redacted++ aka Bob.
His real name was purged from all imperial records. Even his mother was mind wiped before being immortalized as a servitor for ++redacted++.
He is a high ranking member of the ordo malleus and is fully aware that power can easily be gained over an entity when you know its true name.
Daemons cower before his awesomeness. Men want to be him and women swoon at his approach. His known associates include ++redacted++, ++redacted++ and ++redacted++. His last known location is ++data purged under order H982.KT/B9++.
Notable accomplishments include:

++file access logged++
++remain at your current position. Authorities will be with you momentarily++.

Inquisitor Lord Mustela Kathiah of the Ordo Hereticus.
He's got an incredible knack for always surviving, and something of a reputation for corruption though nothing has been proven and probably won't be as long as he produces results. The ancient power armor he wears has saved him many times, but even more often the sacrifice of a brave acolyte or other henchman has saved the Inquisitor. For example poor apprentice Hansen was vaporized on Maeron Prime when he pushed his master into a ditch moments before an Eldar Revenant Titan swept the field clean with it's Pulsars.
Off-game: the name is latin for the yellow-bellied weasel. This particular inquisitor model has been with me for a long time and just refuses to die whenever I field him. Sometimes I might have to feed a squad or two into the grinder or sacrifice a henchman but it's worth it. ;-)

A character I've used in a few DH campaigns now (as well as his original form, a Tzeentchian Lord Sorcerer, now this character's identical twin brother, for all sorts of soap opera drama in space). This particular Inquisitor is, in the spirit of all things 40K, a mash-up of several elements from other sci-fi universe.
Lord Inquisitor Revan Solistramos, Ordo Hereticus. Powerful Telepath and Telekine Psyker. Grievously injured in a battle with heretical forces in the mines of Sepheris Secundus in 886.M41. As a result of these injuries, the Lord Inquisitor's respiratory system was replaced by a hissing augmetic system, his voice reproduced as an electronic growl emitted from a vox-grill built into the front of his relic power armor. Revan also lost his eyes, as a result of the rites of Sanctioning received on Holy Terra. In their place, he has a pair of black, lens-like augmetic eyes.
Lord Inquisitor Solistramos is a staunch, though pragmatic, Amalathian, and opposes the extreme actions of both Puritan and Radical factions within the Inquisition of the Calixis Sector. That said, he has been known to ally with Inquisitors of other factions in order to prosecute particularly loathsome foes of Mankind. He is known to hold an especial disgust towards the Necrons, and will not hesitate to annihilate any trace of a Tomb should he encounter one.
Nearing his fifth century of life, the Lord Inquisitor and his retinue can often be found aboard his personal warship, the Vindicator of Faith, pursuing, especially, the activities of Tzeentchian cults and revolutionary groups. There are some who whisper (though never where the Lord Inquisitor can hear them) that he does so because his own brother has taken the path of the damned, and is now a favored Sorcerer Lord in the service of the Architect of Fate. It is thought that Revan seeks to absolve his family name of this stain on its honor.
As a powerful Inquisitor, Revan rarely enters combat without his retinue of acolytes, being a mixture of Imperial Guardsmen and Death Cult Assassins that he has taken for his own. However, in addition to his formidable psychic abilities, he carries a Sollex-pattern powersword of ruby-red coloration and a mastercrafted bolt pistol, which he regards as a symbol of the Inquisition.
