So the way I'm reading this is...

Wolves don't actually have fliers, but we can ally with a flying detachment that doesn't take up anything on any force organisation chart and doesn't require an other compulsory choices (other than 2 extraneous Stormtalons)....

but as it's an ally we still can't use it to transport our guys?

So really we still don't have any flying transport, but we can have an excessively large squadron of fighter/bombers for 420+ points?

really hoping we can put people in the transport, as you said seems completely un worth it if not

Stormraven is a good gunship and a pretty bad transport, so no big loss. It`s a good anti-air and ground attack formation.
