When I was in LA it wasn't a knockout game. It was a shoot them game to get initiated into the Crips. And it wasn't a myth.

You’re thinking of Tangoing, which caused a panic in the early 90's for fear that it might cause kids to deafen each other by being slapped on the ears. I was in the first year of secondary school when it was a thing.
Happy slapping was much later than that. It’s even got its own Wikipedia entry which says it first appeared in 2004, so it was 9 years ago, not 5 as I first thought.

IIRC that happened in Swansea, not long after I moved away from Uni tbh. I remember a yarn spun by a security guard we befriended at the Download Festival (he always ran security at the same campsite, was a great chap, and we would make him a cuppa and a bacon sarnie in the mornings). He was doing security at another festival, and this bloke runs up in a panic and says to him 'come quick, this bloke has just knocked out two guys!' so he hurries over to find a guy in his 60s supporting himself on two walking sticks, and two men in their mid 20s unconsious on the floor. Apparently the two chaps thought it would be a good idea to mug the older gentleman, as it turns out, the old guy was a former olympic boxing champion... As for the OP, just provides me with more proof that idiocy should be punishable by death...

Sounds like a handful of unrelated random random assaults, the same kind that has happened in large cities since there has been large cities. It is a media-created frenzy as a way to make reporting random assault sound "sexier" for ratings/hits. Sorry.

No one has denied that it happened. Still the only evidence that it exist as a "game" are the interviews of the perpetrators saying that it is. Wow, a bunch of young adults trying to propagate their false bravado? Again, look at the numbers your own police provided in 2011. Hardly concrete.
And there are plenty of people cowering in fear. WND, Sean Hannity, and large swathes of the right wing blogsphere have convinced themselves (and their followers) that gangs of black teens are preying on innocent white people all in the name of a violent game sweeping the nation, but only they know the "truth" about it because Obama and the MSM have suppressed the "facts."

It isn't a conspiracy, nor have I claimed it as one. It is media sensationalism, plain and simple, with the people yelling the loudest about making the claim that this "game" exists as way for black people to terrorize innocent, well-meaning white people (as evidenced by the multitude of links I shared). The notion of this "game" stems from cherry-picked statistics, surveillance videos posted on YouTube, and a couple of kids bragging about it when interviewed; none of which are credible in any way.
It isn't mostly "black on black" (why there even needs to be a distinction baffles me)... Just mostly made up. By the way, just out of curiosity, if it so under reported, how did you become such an expert on it? Care to share all your resources and references so can all do some research on it?

This isn't a comment on certain people's targeting. What I will say is that, historically speaking, the Black Community has continually be much more hesitant to report a crime than seemingly any other group. So, if a black kid targets someone who looks very similar to them, there are fair odds that the crime will not be reported, unless someone reports it for them.
I'm not a crime statistician, or LEO of any type, this is just observation from my years in adulthood and watching/reading the "news"

So because the media made up stories about the epidemic of black people knocking out white people because it's some sort of game, and because we know of a historic distrust between the black community and law enforcement, we can arrive to the well founded conclusion that black-on-black knockout games are the urban version of hacky sack?

No.. I wouldn't say the media "made up" all these stories "because it's some sort of game" the reason the term game is being used, is because the perpetrators who have been interviewed have called it such, have acted with a continued lack of remorse for their actions (as if they were just playing hackey sack), and it seems that only now, when some of these idiots are getting caught out because they suck at life so badly are we seeing a more "positive" side of the story.
My comment on the black community not reporting crimes was more a general one, not specific to this thread, nor the article in the OP/discussion of these acts.

I think we can all agree that it is much more realistic to decide public policy by calculations based on random guesswork and vague supposition, than on any attempted to be verified actual statistics. The year-on-year change is much easier to measure without a baseline.
