Come join Chaos, we have dirge casters.

Believe me, after reading Dirgecaster, I have considered it greatly

Dirge Caster makes certain Chaos builds more viable against Tau than the Loyalist ones in my humble opinion.

Well if you have a ladraider, use it to block LOS, markerlights can't be used on the unit charging from the raider can they? Since the unit wasn't on the board during the Tau shooting phase, they should be safe.

Markerlights only last until the end of the phase, anyway, so that's not the concern. The issue is that Tau have a special rule that allows nearby units to fire Overwatch as well -- including models with Markerlights. This lets the Markerlight models increase the accuracy of other units during Overwatch.

Dirge Casters kick ass.

Hold out bait to entice the enemy. Feign disorder, and then crush him.

Flamers are great. A Land Raider Redeemer is pretty handy, as is Drop Podding in Troops with Flamers. Thunderfire Cannons are also incredibly effective.

As someone pointed out, Tank Shock can be great. Tau players tend to hug their deployment edge, so if you can get a vehicle all the way to their deployment edge, then basically Tank Shock straight across their deployment edge, you can end up chasing many of them right off the board.

And I know I'll catch flak for this, but I run Space Wolves, and Drop Podding in a Rune Priest and then firing off Jaws of the World Wolf is crazy good. Tau have crap Initiative, of course, which is where JotWW hits hardest. It's one of the reasons SWs get a lot of hate, but one of my regular group runs Tau, and the top of turn one, our first face-off, I took his Riptide off the board (as well as several Troops) with a well-placed Rune Priest coming out of a Drop Pod. Similar to the Tank Shock trick, JotWW straight down a Tau line can be devastating.
