Thanks for all the input everyone. Much appreciated. I didn't realis this is such a hot ttopic.

For the most part it isnt a big deal at all. jst a matter of respect to your local players and TO in terms of finding out what they allow or are willing to play against.
the problem only arises when the smal loud groups who just dont want to use it in their particuler gaming clubs (which is entirely their right as closed gaming communities) and the FW players who try to force these small groups to use it against their will and then slander and call them names and generally harrass them because they cant bring their "favorite toys" to games within that community. A side note about the 'non-FW communities", is that they dont mind FW models that represent normal models. they even like them and often own them, it is only the extra additional rules that they dont want to use.
this is why i suggested you talk with your local players and TO before you buy into too much. It is a LOT of money to spend on something you may not get to use.

I mostly use them to represent units in the codex (plague marines, DKoK as IG, etc).

I plan on using a DKoK assault brigade though in the near future.

Superheavies would be limited to Escalation games and Apocalypse games, unless you and a buddy want to throw down with the big guns. Play how you like.

Take a look at the following Forgeworld units and models. Why would they be limited to Apocalypse?

You and your friends should play with what you like.

You can buy Forge World models anytime you want.

Are you asking to buy FW models, or using FW rules?

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

Could just be they don't want to

It's their option.

Perhaps you should quote my eatlier post exhorting the OP to TRY forgeworld, because it's cool

Perhaps YOUR bias is showing dude.

Doesnt mean that you are TFG if you dont want to play against it. TFG are people who are into rules abuse, cheating and being generally unpleasant to play against. You can play a perfectly enjoyable game of 40k without FW, after all.

Some of them are just cooler looking versions of Codex models

I use the Nurgle Daemon prince and herald in my non-apoc daemons list.

Others are intended for apocalypse.

Some folk aren't comfortable playing against forgeworld rules for their units, but i've rarely had anyone have an issue with having those gorgeous models ont he table as reps for codex units.

I would also like to thank you for not asking if they are 'legal'

The forgeworld legality 'debate' (read Flamewar) comes up way too often as it is.

No-one can force you to play vs FW units, not can you force them to, unless you signed up for a tournament that allows their use or something.

I heartily recommend trying some of the FW units out, if you can get an oppoent willing to try them out. Some are fun

Quoted it for you, since you apparently aren't into actually reading the thread

I find the legality arguments annoying as hell, hence my comment. It really doesnt matter whether FW is legal, since you arent under any obligation to play against it, or any other list, if you dont want to.

Regarding the title of the thread:

Every chance I get.

They are awesome. Sadly, not all the rules are that great, but every chance I get.

Some of them only see apoc games, as they may be so horrible to include in normal games, and many are apoc only.

But I absolutely love my FW models - they are just sexy.

No one is required to do anything period. Death and taxes, thats it. And maybe one day we can beat death.

I guess everyone forgot to mention you need to buy Forgeworld if you plan to play 30k. The main GW line doesn't include any of these.

I field XV9s because I love the models and they are probably the best painted models in my army, so why wouldn't I want to field them?

Some people have a problem with my using them sometimes but considering they are hugely overpriced for what they do and I don't use a Riptide I don't usually get too many objections.

So my answer is when ever I can!

Because they are gakly overpriced XD

Now, I do field my tetras as much as I can though, love the little buggers (just ordered a second pair), and the remoras are fun, even if ineffective.

But the highlight, I am now working on building my very own ShasORLY
No way in hell I WONT be fielding him in every single game I play for the next year or so...

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

Obliterators: £10.50 each.

Thallaxi: £9.30 each.

It's true. Forge World prices don't rise as quickly as Games Workshop prices.

For the most part, FW is still more expensive (an Elysian squad is £39 instead of the Mordians, which are £20.50), but for the Horus Heresy stuff... 5 Horus Heresy marines are only £7 dearer than 5 tactical marines, and for a long time, the Exorcist was about £5 cheaper from Forge World.

I use them in almost every game I play. Our gaming group is well informed and plays often enough with the group to know the rules for the FW models, so we have an open FW policy as long as you bring the most recent rules.

I play Nightwing Interceptors in almost every game I play at my FLGS.

Same for me, although I like to ask upfront if its something big or particularly nasty.

Every game. My main army is a FW army list HH, my secondary army is a SM army with FW characters and tactics rules, my small tertiary army simply uses a FW vehicle since its one of those armies FW doesn't care about(DE).

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!

The reason there are no more FW DE models is not that FW does not care about DE, but because the DE style of vehicle was not suited for large resin models. They would be even more fragile than the regular plastic ones. The Tantalus is about as large as they can go.

I use FW stuff in pretty much every game, too. My Exorcist is a FW turret combined with a FW Deimos Rhino, and I love me some Repressors.
