But there is no "to hit roll" for a hammer of wrath attack.

I could be wrong here (I know nothing about Tyranid kits) but I'm fairly sure that they aren't completely invalidating old models. From the sounds of things, Tyranids are losing Ymgarl Genestealers, the Doom of Malantai, and Mycetic Spores. I don't think that any of those three units ever had their own kit - Ymgarls were just a variant of Genestealers (so you'd just use the Genestealer kit), the Doom is just a fancy Zoanthrope (so you'd just use a Zoanthrope kit) and Mycetic Spores never actually got their own kit. I'll grant that anyone who scratch-built a Mycetic Spore or converted it from something else is unable to use them anymore, but they didn't actually invalidate any existing models.

Were Mycetic spores part of the Chapterhouse lawsuit, or am I confusing that with something else?

Well, the silver lining of the Tyranid book sucking is that, if you don't care about your army being very competitive and still like the models, you're probably going to be able to buy armies on the cheap off of people jumping ship from Tyranids. You can still play them as a lower-powered codex, and maybe next codex they'll be good. Of course, that's assuming GW can't further nerf stuff next codex, considering that the 5th Edition Codex was already sometimes considered to be a nerf to Tyranids (at least the Carnifex), and this codex seems to largely be a nerf to 5th Ed. Tyranids.
So yeah, if you're getting models second-hand, you're probably going to be getting a reasonable price on models for your money.

I think the army will be fine for beer n' pretzel players who just want to throw a big horde of bugs at people; you can certainly do that with this codex (and the last one). The problem is, every codex is fine for beer n' pretzel players. By virtue of their apathy for balance, there is no such thing as a bad codex. There's nothing wrong with having that mindset, but it makes me wonder why people with that mindset get so buttfurious when people who do care about things like balance and well-written rulesets are disappointed with the product.

Im 100% with you Blanx, I'm a casual player, play with friends in games that are scheduled a week or so ahead of time and the kind of game where you say hey ill be bringing 1 or 2 flyers so heads up kind of deal or hey how about no flyers or this or that etc etc this time. BUT I have no problem with someone who desires a competitive play style (on a side note and not bringing this out for debate I do 100% believe this game can never have a competitive balance at all esp. with forge world being made legal and finally being pushed by GW)
I may be a casual beer and pretzels guy but there are also times where me and my friends like to push our armies and test their true power and hopefully our skills, so its nice when the army across from yours or the one your using doesn't fail on so many levels. I think that the Nids would be a good tough battle for my BA but that's not saying anything at all now is it!? and if they lined up against my tau...... well I'm not going to be worried at all and I was really expecting and hoping to have some tough swarmy buggers running around giving tau a run for their money.
we can all wait and see but there's some pretty nice codexs out there from 6th I know Tau and Eldar get all the attention but Daemons, Necrons, eldar , tau and even C:SM got some cool builds from their codex and then there's the DA , CSM- end of the spectrum as far as 6E codexs go and this is the end of the spectrum Nids look to be on. Whats worse about this one compared to those others and why this is getting more complaints than other releases is they didn't improve anything just slapped a couple models in (here buy these!!), lowered point costs and nerfed a few things to where you now have a few mono builds that are a made in china version of Daemons Flying circus, and GW with a smile and large amounts of hype said here yah go new codex have fun!!
