How do you suggest we balance out shooting/assault overall? Right now shooting is generally better, so we want to buff assault or nerf shooting without just making assault the new top dog.
Maybe removing random charge range?
Either 6+ D6" or 4D3 or something like that. Or simply 6" again.
5+D3?
Mostly reliable, but a good round of Overwatch can still make a difference.
The average is also 7 like now, but it gets rid of those stupid or charges.

My take on charge range: Initiative + 1D6.
Same idea that motivated the Sx2 range for grenades. Make the attributes matter.
By the way, if "assault from reserves" is fixed and "walkers and assault" is fixed, the change in assault range would be enough, imo, to balance the shooting/assault thing. Anyway, the "cover modifies BS" thing should be tested before, since it changed shooting a lot.

We tested it. It works fine. It slightly reduces the effectiveness of cover in order to apply it equally no matter your armour/invul. It also punishes those with lower BS more; makes sense, since the more skilled you are the easier it is to just shoot the parts outside of cover.
But it seemed balanced.
I like that charge range, though I feel Furious Charge should be counted in. That really would make sense!

Mine are not for competetive play, mine are for general play.
I am an extremely fluff-driven casual player and I neither play as nor against armies that are min-maxed, but nobody enjoys a faulty game.

Same here, 100%.
However, a good " competitive" game is also usually a good " casual" game, at least for those who enjoy fair competition (and not "I pay I win" or "I play this faction I win" so called "competitive players" . Which means balance. Some Deuce11 ideas sound neat. I am posting 3 of them:
-> Both of you see Assaulting out of Vehicles and Furious Charge the same way.
-> Pistols: A player may elect for any model engaged in close combat to use the profile of its pistol(s) instead of its normal unit profile. That was a rumor at some point for 7th edition and it sounds cool. It needs more detail though. How many attacks? It a close combat attack or rolls with his BS? I am also assuming it is a single shot
-> Look out sir! reduced to once per game. (I proposed once per turn in my first answer to this topic, it is a really cool, interesting rule that goes full when used 10 times in a row).
I will stop here because it is a different thread though.

Following the same idea a lot of us agree with, the unit gains +1S,+1I. It would bolster its charge range too.
Sounds good.

I agree with those three... But I think to limit LoS to once per turn, instead of once per game.
Exceptions for Bodyguards, Tyrant Guard and similar.
Do go on about his proposals, after all, my main reason for doing this is getting a nice version of 40K for our local meta to play. (I am not so arrogant as to think it'll have any real spread.)

Nice detail about the bodyguards. If they can do LOS! more often they will really feel like bodyguards. Fluff fluff fluff.
About Deuce11´s proposals, I think I quoted the three I was really ok with. I just posted on the other thread.
About nice ideas ( imho) I found on other threads, I like this approach to the Flyers by Peregrine: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/570428.page#6381952
I think Flyers are badly implemented and this feels a good solution for me.

Nice detail about the bodyguards. If they can do LOS! more often they will really feel like bodyguards. Fluff fluff fluff.
You could also do something like tau crisis bodyguards do. They have the "Sworn Protector" special rule which means ICs in the unit automatically pass LOS.
