Trillions. There are no more oceans on Terra, and entire ranges of mountains have been chopped off and carved up to build massive temples to the God-Emperor. Hell, the Imperial Palace itself comprises the entire Himalayan range. Additionally, you have the Astronomican and the palaces of the various High Lords, as well as all manner of Administratum buildings, warehouses, storage vaults and other constructions. Some important holdings of the Inquisition and the Ecclesiarchy.

And, of course, all the basic infrastructure required to support the billions upon billions of workers that support the government, as well as the billions of pilgrims that arrive on Holy Terra every year.

Makes sense. So is it a life of luxury to be there? Or is it just like the other planets?

There is if you are one of the High Lords of Terra, one of the Lord Inquisitors, one of the Departmento Heads of any of the Administratum offices, or a high-ranking priest of the Ecclesiarchy...

... otherwise I would imagine it is like Washington DC, where the people who work in all the restaurants, hotels, theaters, stores, shops and everything else that supports the politicians and lobbyists are generally "working poor".

DC is a fairly gakky town to actually live in.

Earth is the largest Hive City in the Empire, home to huge Adepta complexes making up the offices of every organisation in the IoM. And the Imperial Palace ofc, a huge structure taking up most of the Himalayan mountain chain. The planet's stripped of all resources, barren, poisoned... Food is brought in from off-system and water from the asteroid belt.

Living there is still a great honor and privilege, as you're serving the Emperor directly.

It's pretty much just like DC, only grimdarked. A large city largely dedicated to a long-past golden age filled with monuments to the dead and ideologies with a city nobody would choose to live surrounding it that even has some terrible poverty and crime. Meanwhile the Politicians all lead lavish lives and are largely out of touch with the surrounding people and live in their own bubble.

Wow. A lot of people in this thread who know nothing of DC....

I always viewed Terra to be like Mega City 1 from Judge Dread on steroids and religious.

I've visited DC. It's.... yeah, I'd consider LA a more livable spot than DC.

I've visited DC and it does'nt seem so bad, at least in comparison to the city I was living in ATL.

Yes.

Okay, next thread.

But seriously, Sisters are the last faction to have any real contact with the Emperor, so the assumption that they exist without his okay is bizarre.

Not to mention just the general acts of faith the constantly pull. That implies he's quite aware of them in a day-to-day business.

It could be that their faith is so intense it has Ork-like effects on reality and we do have proof that the thoughts of most things affect the warp in some way.

Or it could be both.

I personally go with both.

I go with the explanation provided in C:WH.

Which is, to put it amusingly:

Their kung fu is better than your kung fu, and thus they accomplish miracles that you cannot.

We don't actually know that for sure. Could be the case, but we've never been told what happened when Dominica went into the Throne room.

Those aren't actually magical. At least not in codex fluff. It's more their belief pushing their bodies to greater feats. Think mother lifting car off of her baby, or man hypnotizing himself to undergo surgery without anaesthetics and you've got the right general idea.

I'm pretty sure that there'd be magic involved for that to happen.

There are supposed examples of it happening IRL, so perhaps not. The only reason I really mentioned it was to give an idea of how AoFs work, an empowered mindset driving the body onwards.

This is certainly how the codexes have presented it, with references to "the power of belief" or "seemingly miraculous".
