I've not seen the Dystopian Legion rules yet, but I have a copy of your Bolt Action stats already, thank you! I assume these will be extended to include any new models that come out?

Your stats should work well with the clockwork Goblin bits for a real Weird war

The dystopian legions rules are available as a download from the Spartan website:

I just felt that I had a perfectly good WW2 game in Bolt Action and I'd rather add the AC stuff in than learn a new, and to my way of thinking, clunkier system. I'll almost certainly add to my supplement as new stuff comes out or inspiration strikes. There's a ton of Mythos creatures I haven't included yet. I'll probably get the AC skirmish game anyway - I've really enjoyed reading the RPG books, even though I doubt my group would be interested in playing.

Modiphius have released two new sets of figures for the forthcoming skirmish game this weekend. We have the Pathfinders and Badger's Commandos

Each set is £13.99 from the Modiphius shop.

They have also released a collection of short weird war stories that looks pretty good too.

I'm sorry but this stuff looks like crap. The rendors look different then what these minis look like.

TRY AGAIN!!!!

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

It's probably just the basic paint job that they then zoomed up super close on that's making them look bad.

Also did we really need another weird war 2 game? Dust may mostly dead and maybe rising as a zombie, but there's also Konflict 47 and countless other rules.

How well does this genre really sell?

That is like saying how many fantasy games do we need? Each game has it's own spin on things. Dust, Konflict and SoTR are/were all weird war with a tech twist. A!C is weird war with a very distinct horror theme running through it as it ties into their RPG setting as well. For me, I prefer weird war with horror, rather than tech

I do agree that the models could have done with a better paint job on them to advertise with, especially the Pathfinders

It doesn't appear to have been well advertised but it seems the Skirmish Game was finally released last year.

There are four troop box sets, some smaller 3 figure / single figure packs, a campaign book and a 2 player starter set. I have seen plans for 4 additional troop boxes and another 3 figure pack so hopefully they will see production this year.

Rise of the Black Sun Two-Player Starter Bundle Contents:

Black Sun Troopers with STG-43 Assault Rifles, 2 Black Sun Troopers with Flamethrowers

Spoiler:

ACHTUNG! CTHULHU SKIRMISH: SERVITORS OF NYARLATHOTEP UNIT PACK

"The sound was horrific; cracking bone and tearing flesh. Where moments before, our comrade had stood, now an obscenity made a mockery of nature. Wet, pulsing and slick, a proboscis seemed to taste the blood-soaked air. Below, flesh fell away in strips from the hungry maw that widened in anticipation of the coming slaughter.""

The Servitors of Nyarlathotep are created by the powers of the Black Sun as shock close assault troops and this ten unit pack is the perfect way to supplement your Skirmish forces.

Spoiler:

ACHTUNG! CTHULHU SKIRMISH - DEEP ONES WAR PARTY UNIT PACK

They came, reeking and wet, armed with the scavenged chattels of their victims... in low guttural tones, they coordinated their attack in a vile and repellent imitation of the soldiers that they now sought to drag beneath the waves...

The Deep Ones rise from their watery realms on expeditions with little meaning to human minds and for often unfathomable purposes. Although they may often appear to be allied with local cultists, followers of the Old Gods or indeed, the Black Sun, they always serve the interests of their dark god who lies dreaming beneath the waves. This Deep One War Party consists of seven powerful warriors and one foul Deep One Reefbreaker and are the perfect recruits to enhance your Achtung! Cthulhu skirmish campaign forces, or they can be used in any Achtung! Cthulhu tabletop and role-playing adventures.

Contains

7 brutal Deep One Warriors 1 powerful Deep One Reefbreaker

Spoiler:

ACHTUNG! CTHULHU SKIRMISH: BADGER'S COMMANDOS UNIT PACK

Brave and bold, these Allied commandos are used to operating deep behind enemy lines, on a variety of covert operations. Well versed in fighting both conventional Axis forces and the horrors unleashed in the Secret War, they are a unit of crack troops highly trained and ready to operate by land, sea and air. This pack of 10 troopers are the perfect recruits to embark on your Achtung! Cthulhu skirmish campaign, or they can be used in any Achtung! Cthulhu tabletop and role-playing adventures. Armed with a variety of lethal Blevins Steam Guns, these brave soldiers form the bulk of the Allied special forces opposing the Black Sun and remain a mobile, formidable and ferocious fighting force.
Contains

8 Commandos with Blevin Rifles, 2 Commandos with Blevin Carbines

Spoiler:

I have ordered the Deep Ones war party box set, Deep One 3 figure set and Deep One Elder single figure so will post about figure quality once I receive them. At the moment I intend to add them to my Strange Aeons / Von Unaussprechlichen Kulten Innsmouth collection but if the Achtung! Cthulhu skirmish game is going to be supported further moving forward (looking forward to the Cultists of Cthulhu troop box) then I will most likely give this game a proper try as well. Will pop round to their table during Salute to see what they say and maybe have a quick demo game.

There is a matching 3 figure Villain pack as well -

I asked on Facebook and there should be announcements about the next 4 releases shortly. That does include a 10 figure Black Sun Villain box set which may have some overlap with the 3 figure set.

I received my first two packs yesterday, the Deep One 3 unit booster pack and Deep One Raiding Party 8 figure box.

On the Positive side: These are extremely detailed models with no visible mold lines. All of the models have one limb that needs to be attached and the majority of the models have nice socket joins that fit perfectly and might not need any filling. The other two are flat joins, one of which is rather awkward but nothing to compared to certain other manufacturers.

On the negative side: I can confirm that there are scale issues between the older blister pack and the newer unit box. The blister contains 2 regular Deep Ones and 1 large Deep Ones. The box contains 7 regular Deep Ones and 1 large Deep One. However the blister large Deep One is the same size as a unit box regular Deep One and the blister regular Deep ones are way too small (the skulls and rifles are also disproportionat so not really usable as young Deep Ones if that sort of thing bugs you). I don't think that this will be an issue with future releases, just that they changed the scale of some of the creatures between the RPG model blister packs and the Skirmish game.

The Deep Ones in the blister are 2 scouts and one Hunter. The box set is a pile of Hunters and one Reef Breaker. They are intended to be three different sizes, though there are no stats for hunters IIRC, so I guess they are intended to be used as younger hunters at the moment.

Unless you are a masochist, I'd recommend staying away from the Mi-Go and Bloodborn packs btw... those are some fiddly little figures that just do not want to stay together. Night Gaunts are not a heck of a lot better, but most of their parts have larger contact areas than the Mi-Go and Bloodborn legs. Pinning is not an option on some of those pieces!

The trouble with the scouts is that the rifles and human skulls they carry are out of scale with the rest of the figures. It doesn't bother me but may do some people. I was trying to see if they actually had separate stats for the Scouts or not. I presumed that the stats only cover Hunters, Reef Breakers and Elders as they were the only ones mentioned in the free campaign book.

Thanks for the tips on avoiding the Mi-Go. One of the next wave of boxes is a Mi-Go expedition box so will wait for that and hopefully they will be easier to assemble.

If they have the two player starter at Salute I think I will pick up then otherwise will make a webstore order next month.

The Black Sun campaign book is an interesting read with lots of linked scenarios telling a good story. You will need some US marines for the Allied side though.

The one piece resin figures that they gave away with preorders were fantastic, I think it was that Prodos casting method as one of them looked like she should have been a multipart metal. I hope they switch to using that instead as it was much nicer to work with.

Having said that, the Pathfinders were really nice and are currently sat in the painting queue

I had seen they were giving away bonus preorder figures but didn't realise they were resin. What models were they?

I have been impressed with the quality of the metals so I expect the resin to be very good quality as well.

I really like the cultists of the old god figures but have been holding off as a unit box is expected soon but may cave anyway.

Have you found a range of standard military figures that's a good match for the A!C models?

I'm just about to post some bits in my painting thread, so maybe we should move the conversation there, rather than derail this further?

Yep. That's fine.
