Seriously? That there be canon bro. Funny how people forget how ultra the UM are and then complain that they're too good in the fluff.

Ultramar is eight worlds. What are the rest 492?

Ran by UMs that were split into second founding chapters after the Scouring and reinforced by subsequent foundings (as I said in my first post "early foundings").

Edit: my text is supper small when viewed on the iPhone. Apolgies if that's how it looks to others. It's not me, forum code's to blame.

Ah, what's a "name your favorite Chapter" thread without the Ultramarines-bashing bandwagon.

Haha well you can see how someone could take that meaning out of what he said.

In regards to the Ultramarines, the only issue I have with them is that Captain Titus is not "official" 40k canon. And that's just upsetting because he's such a hardcore badass. I love the color scheme personally, and they have as many cool stories about them as stories that make you groan and want to shake the writer of it loose from Mary Suedom.

I am a Dark Angels guy. The xenophobia and extreme clandestine nature of the chapter appeals to me. Plus, robes. Plus, very gothic era catholic-style iconography. I'm not catholic but when that church ruled Europe, they made some pretty hauntingly beautiful architecture and holy objects.

Red Scorpions are my primary chapter. I suspect they're actually descended from loyalist elements of one of the traitor legions, given their obsession with following the codex and the purity of their geneseed.

Ultramarines. I am sold on their fluff to the disgust of my SW friend.

But I am tired of seeing more than 70% running the gold pauldron second company so I paint my marines in the colours of fifth company.

Special characters like Tigurius and elites like sternguard, are painted to how they should look like in the codex.

Definitely feel you there. My Ultramarines have right from the first model been the red-rimmed Third Company, heroes of the Tyrannic wars.

Simply blood angels because of their super rich background and if it weren't for their primarchs sacrifice against Horus during the herecy things may if turned out a lot different later.

They are a cursed chapter who suffer from a few major genetic flaws but it makes them a more deadlier force. They are noble and have always been at the doorstep of most major wars plus what wins it for me is their similarities to vampirism. The rage which passes through them via the screams of their dead primarchs gives them that edge which I don't see in any other chapter. War means more to these guys than most and it's easily seen that things on the field are more than personal.

They kick ass, loyal, amazing history, rich colour schemes and lets not forget the death company. Oh then there's mephiston - Nuff said

I play Black Templars. I chose them because of their fluff. They are ruthless and stubborn in their crusades, they refuse to follow the codex astartes because they know better than Guilleman, or however you spell his name. The Black Templars don't stop to settle worlds and protect individual planets, they are always moving and always crusading. Evil never rests, why should we. They also realize that chaos comes from the warp, and psykers use the warp, and it is the witch that opens themselves up to chaos. So the Eternal Crusade will live on, until the Imperium of man is free of chaos, xenos, and witches.

I have also started to get some Blood Angels, that i am going to ally with my BT. But fluff-wise I am going to call them Black Templars. They are going to be a branch of templars known as the Black Angels who are known for killing imperials. Namely imperials who have shown the taint of chaos, or have allies with Xenos. The Black Angels branch have been branded as excommunicatus by Terra, but still ally with those who know their mission is pure. In fact, they still garner the support of Inquisitor Tyrus, who shares the same zeal for killing Psykers as they do.

My secret fortress at the base of the volcano!

I've had the same SM Chapter since I started this addiction back in 1994; the Emperor's Eagles.

They are and always were descended from loyalist remnants of the Emperor's Children who had been deployed too far from Istvaan to be corrupted by Slaanesh, or to participate in the dropsite massacre. They surrendered to the loyalists as soon as they heard about Istvaan, and after convincing the Big E of their loyalty, they were allowed to fight in the Heresy (always alongside a much larger force as they weren't completely trusted, and they were too few in number to be of much use on their own). They changed their name, painted their armor black, and did the best they could with what they had (which wasn't a whole lot). Afterwards, they spent a few centuries getting their numbers back up to fighting strength, then went right back to fighting the Imperium's enemies. All under the very, very, VERY close scrutiny of the Inquisition (I made a point of fielding an Inquisitor along side my force for every battle I play with them, if the rules permit it... if not, I just place an Inquisitor model on the board and tell my opponent "don't mind that guy, he's just here to watch and report.."). Naturally, they claim to be a Second Founding Chapter descended from the Ultramarines (publicly, at least) because with so many UM offspring running around, who would doubt them? Of course, the actual Emperor's Eagles marines know the truth (and so does the Inquisition).

As the rules have changed and the codex gets rewritten, I've kept the army more or less consistent... a core of tac squads, lots of dreds, lots of predators, and an assault squad. I'm not sure which rules to give them this edition, though. I like the Imperial Fists Chapter Tactics of Bolter Drill, but I also like the Raven Guard rules... I may not have a lot of assault squads in my army, but I use my tac squads very aggressively and having Scouts and Stealth would be kewl. The UM tactics are useful in a general way, so they are kinda attractive, too. I need to nail this shizz down before I finish re-working my models and start playing again.

Emperor's Eagles (undergoing Chapter reorganization)
Caledonian 95th (undergoing regimental reorganization)
Thousands Sons (undergoing Warband re--- wait, are any of my 40K armies playable?)

As I recently started rounding out my Tyranids, I just started up my marine army.

The Iron Reavers
Spoiler:

In the the final days of the Great Scouring, on a world far from the civilized areas of the Imperium, several regiments of the Imperial Army were chasing a warband of Iron Warriors as they attempted to make for the Safety of the Eye of Terror. After destroying their ships and forcing them onto a barren planet, the Iron Warriors were pursued as they tried to seek shelter in a ruined fortress, one of their own long destroyed in their quick purge of any loyalists within their ranks As they came close, great searchlights turned on, blinding the guardsmen and stunning the Iron Warriors as they took pause on this new predicament, dozens of automated guns opened up from every angle, hidden in the rubble of the fortress, into the warband's ranks. The guardsmen took heart and quickly the warriors were cut down. But still in doubt lay the identities on their helpers. From the gates, twelve Iron Warriors walked forward, the last loyalist defenders to survive the purge of the garrison. The Imperial Army took them into custody and transported them to Terra. There, they were interrogated by the High Lords of Terra and by a council of senior Astartes. The were found to be without taint, but also found to be too obsessed with hunting down their brothers. For their faithful duty to the Emperor, and for the pains they had suffered, they were given the Emperor's Mercy. Their gene-seed was harvest, and lost to memory.

The Iron Reavers are those descendants, with some added fluff I still have been trying to work out.

"There is a cancer eating at the Imperium. With each decade it advances deeper, leaving drained, dead worlds in its wake. This horror, this abomination, has thought and purpose that functions on an unimaginable, galactic scale and all we can do is try to stop the swarms of bioengineered monsters it unleashes upon us by instinct. We have given the horror a name to salve our fears; we call it the Tyranid race, but if is aware of us at all it must know us only as Prey."

Well, I play BA. In the 3rd edition, it was a great army to play. Even later, the DC sprue is gorgeous, one of the best sprues ever. I also used it for normal Assault Marines. In the meanwhile I have a full company of Assault Marines waiting for the new codex to arrive in the near future. If not, it will not be a problem. I play BA also in apoc games. Libbies with puppet master, ouch!
