I'm quite boring, I play straight up Ultramarines, but they're 3rd company and full of conversions and kitbashes, so they aren't too plain I guess. They stand out next to most UM armies at least, but they're still just Ultramarines, fluffy down to Captain Fabian having a plasma pistol and power sword.

Damn, I forgot to include Space Wolves in my vote!

I play DA, SW, GK, and a Raven Guard successor. So where to begin about all that...

I guess GK is an easy one. After I first got into 40k with Imperial Guard some friends got me some Daemonhunters-era Grey Knights because, it's all 40k, right?

And suddenly RL gets in the way, so I'll have to make hasty explanations.

With Raven Guard I like the scouting and I wanted to go with a similar colour scheme.

SW was started partially for the fluff, mostly for the tournament-stomping cheese in 5th edition.

And DA...I don't really know what drew me to them. Maybe all the green, maybe the robes, or maybe just 'cause I wanted an excuse to by a fethton of terminators...

Good looking Ultramarines are actually quite special. The vast majority of Ultramarine armies I see is done very badly To be frank, I can't remember ever having seen a well done Ultramarine army in person at all.
Besides, all the 'special snowflake' armies do make the 'generic' Ultramarines stand out somewhat

Dark Angels.

The fluff and the diversity of painting and choices of unit combinations makes it a really interesting army to play.

Get your models on the table and looking good!

Simply blood angels because of their super rich background and if it weren't for their primarchs sacrifice against Horus during the herecy things may if turned out a lot different later.

They are a cursed chapter who suffer from a few major genetic flaws but it makes them a more deadlier force. They are noble and have always been at the doorstep of most major wars plus what wins it for me is their similarities to vampirism. The rage which passes through them via the screams of their dead primarchs gives them that edge which I don't see in any other chapter. War means more to these guys than most and it's easily seen that things on the field are more than personal.

They kick ass, loyal, amazing history, rich colour schemes and lets not forget the death company. Oh then there's mephiston - Nuff said

What this gent said. Rich history, best SM models out there, vampires un power armor, librarian dreads, an entire army going mad with rage. What's not to like?

Dark Angels. I got the DV set and stuck with them. Was upset at the lack of good stories about them in comparison to other chapters but they have really cool looking models and some interesting fluff. Kind of wish we had better air support though.

i voted traitor not because my Marines no longer respect and support the empirium but feel the bureaucracy has fall so far from the original ideals of the emperor.

They are the Dark Templars. An ironic twist on all the zelous devotion to a false empire.

they are dark purple and white

while they are mostly a small fleet based chapter they have recently formed an alliance with a break away sect of Beil-tan. the Dark Templar and their Eldar allies have started working to rebuild a lost maiden world. Which its location is one of the most closely guarded secrets by both Marine and Eldar.

i have worked out modified fluff for every unit and new rules for a truly mixed eldar marine list.

May the dice giods grant its publication =P

I started Dark Angels, because at the time I was looking into getting into the game, DV had just come out. So it was an army I could get into relatively cheaply. After that Dark Green is one of my favorite colors, and I do enjoy the fluff.

I started my Salamanders, Because I had bought Lots of used Space marines, and had a Vulkan and Ironclad dread that I couldn't use with my DA. So eventually expanded them into a full ((If smaller)) army to use as an Ally for my Dark Angels or Tau.

I like to say I have two armies: Necrons, and Imperium.....

Primary: Black Templars.

Black armoured teutonic Knights who chain their weapon to their wrists before they beat the living crap out of their enemies. No need to say more.

Well, there is a thing to say: The fluff changes in the new Codex suck. Really hard.

Secondary: Imperial Fists & Crimsons Fists.

General background & heraldry. Germanic Siegemasters with self-flagellation issues in Postgelb armour and outer space Conquistadors, you just have to love them. Also, the triarchy of Dorn has to be complete.

Tertiary: Space Wolves.

I have a great affinity for the nordic mythology. The Wolves of Fenris fit pretty well, even while I use my own colour scheme, heraldry and background. Don't like the baby bluegrey. Only a shame that they have become a linguistic joke with their wolfy wolf wolfitems in the latest Codex.

Grey Knights, they finally convinced me to get a Marine Army. I enjoy most of the fluff and their medieval knight style heads look so much better to me than standard marine heads. Plus I just despise Daemons, one of my friends always runs a tricked out flying Daemon prince against my guard and murders everyone so I had enough of his crap haha.

I play my own chapter the Z Fighters, themed off DBZ. They have ultramarine geneseed. They have a close alliance witha rogue trader house whose warrant is signed by guilliman himself. Formerly a fleet based codex adherant chapter they now have a home planet and a divergent organisation and combat doctrine. They specialize in extraction, usually of basic citizens but have run special mission for many organisations in exchange for gear or rare materials.

When i was a wee nipper back in the days of Rogue Trader I played Space Wolves because I like dogs and I liked the idea of totally savage space warriors.

When i returned to the hobby with Dark Vengeance I stuck with Dark Angels and found that the fluff was pretty awesome. I painted up 80 or so marines but realised that I didn't really want to go any further because I don;t like marines in black armour and if i wanted to add fast attack vehicles etc i'd have to start painting Ravenwing colours.

I've now moved on to a chapter of my own design, the Brotherhood of Steel. They have a loosely Soviet look to them, lots of grey and gunmetal with red and gold trim. The Brothers are of Imperial Fist stock, because I like their fluff and because Ian Watson's Space Marine was one of my favourite novels when I was young. Even though it's not canon anymore it's still wonderfully evocative and I wanted my boys to pay homage to them.

I have to admit that neither when a lad nor as an adult have i ever felt like playing Ultramarines. I like their fluff, the noble bastards, but I'm not a fan of the colourscheme.

Although my Chaos Marines are Alpha Legion, so I've still ended up painting a lot of blue marines
