Having Fielded a Warhound w/ x2 Turbo Laser Destrucrors at the 1850 point level, I can quite say that yes, D weapons are way more powerful than they should be. Tau? Killed a Broadside SQUAD with it's buffing commander AND spanked a riptide in one round of shooting...with just the Warhound. Tyranids? Swarmlord & guard and a unit of Zoanthropes. Cron Air? Refer to the usability of stompas...I got TOASTED! That seems to be the way of things in 40k world of late. Everything has to look out for this or that list, that just beats it, no questions asked. But unless your opponent gets lucky, like mine did, and there is NO line of sight to that 1 last guy, I could have just tabled him, no flyers to fly in turn 2. So far the best ways to "correct" the power of d weapons, when not just outlawing the outright, have been to reduce the large last to just blast. not as many "kill the whole squad" shots, but you can still crush MC, first turn FMC, tanks and other titans.

That is the best D-weapon balancing act I`ve heard. Still allows it to do what it is supposed to do, but makes the weaknesses against infantry even worse. Still don`t think it is really needed, but I wouldn`t really mind the "fix".

In our mind, the D weapons aren't suposed to be troop killers, thats what the vulcan mega bolter, inferno cannon and plasma blast gun are for (sonic lances for the space fairies), but with the D weapons being large blasts, I could kill as almost as many troops with one "shot" as the anti infantry weapons, and still be able to turn the D weapon on the super heavies as well. With the smaller blast area, I've seen a lot more versatility being brought out with the titan on the table. More Turbo Laser/Blast Gun or Turbo Laser/Mega Bolter. I do still see the dedicated Turbo Laser/Turbo Laser, but that configuration is usually stomping a path up the back field sniping at tanks and other titans, which is more of what that kind of titan would do. In my mind that is what a "Fix" should be looking at doing as much as trying to balance the game mechanics, make the rules fit the fluff. I'm still a little miffed over the loss of torrent on the Inferno cannon though, kinda hurts the weapon more than it should, IMO, but I still field my Mega Bolter/Inferno Cannon Warhound from time to time. I love the WTF?!? I get when they see a titan charging into their backfield like a Hippo with it's tail on fire.
