What ratings? He has about 7 viewers worldwide. Rumor is his show is toast. It was definitely toast until everyone else started sucking there too.
I like CNN for news, but never ever watch in the evening. If I want lefty commentary I can swing over to the scenery chewers at MSNBC. The CNN ones are just...boring. Their new morning show is boring too. Its like lame GMA.

As I already said, that makes it a top rating show by CNN standards.

It was definitely toast until everyone else started sucking there too.

When everyone on CNN started sucking? You mean 1998?

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. You know, off thought here, but is it legal to carry a sword? Something tells me you can't which would be silly if you can openly carry a gun but not a sword or large knife...

Also, if someone openly carrying a firearm acted beligerently towards me could I shoot them because I thought my life might be in danger? "He had a gun and was yelling at me, started moving his hand towards his hip..."

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

That'd be awesome then pass some duelling laws; I mean, you're protecting yourself, right? Pistols at dawn and all of that.

I know myself well enough to not ever carry a weapon; sometimes I have poor impulse control.

In Cali...technically yes. Fixed blade knives could only be legally carried openly...with no blade length restriction (Unless county or city had more restrictive measures). Batons were a massive no-no however, unless you had a badge.

And...it depends. Belligerence in the form of telling you that your favorite my little pony is wrong and the choice of uncultured swine, followed by putting his hands on his hips in victory is NOT the same as a guy getting into an accident with you, stepping out of their vehicle, declaring they are going to <CENSORED> you up for ruining their truck, and actually moving to grab a weapon.

Sharp pointy thing but no stick...makes no sense, does it?

So, how do you draw the line. Road-rage guy drives up yelling and reaches towards his glove compartment, can you blast away because you fear for your life and have reasonable suspicion to think he's going for the now ubiquitous hand-gun (vs. his cellphone to take a picture of your car)?

One thing that I've noticed about peope who carry firearms in hipholsters is that a great number of them actually rest their hands, naturally, near the weapon. I don't think any of them are intending to be threatening but if you have a large sidearm, even going into your hip pocket for your wallet or cell-phone combined with threatening language could result in a shootout.

Picture this lady not smiling, in the same pose, yelling expletives at you. Would you have reason to fear for your life? Enough to draw and fire upon her?

Yeah, it's mainly me being stoopid and talking about open carry which is becoming the new thang and what I'm quasi, genuinely concerned about. I've been around guns my whole life but I will never be comfortable sitting in a restaurant or somewhere and seeing people sitting around with guns falling out their pants:

I guess I just don't see a need for it. I was brought up to have a healthy respect for firearms and that they were only to be carried/used in specific situations. While I understand that not everyone shared that upbringing, it's something that lingers with me nonetheless.

How many of those people have sprung up and started shooting? Do you feel that same discomfort when walking down a street with traffic?

But otherwise, stay the feth out, you smelly, antisocial bastards, because we're scared you are going to say something that goes against our mantra of absolute devotion to the corporate motherland and we actually perceive any of you who've been gaming more than a year to be a hostile entity as you've been exposed to the internet and 'dangerous ideas'. I'm not expecting such laws to result in wholesale carnage, I was just expressing my personal opinion and discomfort at open carry. I've had my entire life to get used to people driving on roads, this open carry thing is fairly new. Besides, I can dodge traffic a fair bit more successfully than bullets were somebody to lose it and the news is replete with stories of people "losing control" and barrelling into groups of pedestrians...

Wishing I was back at the South Atlantic, closer to ice than the sun

To draw back the conversation a bit, why is there a need to withdraw the requirement to show a 'good reason' for a CCW?

I was asked recently to show a good reason to open a bank account!

I can understand and agree with an overturn on a ban, but all they're asking is that you justify your request beyond "Because I want to"

Is it that unreasonable?

Cheers

Well, the right to keep and bear arms, is a constitutional right. Opening a bank account is not. Besides a bank is a private firm, they can ask you whatever they want, within reason, when you ask to open an account.

Grey, you're missing my question, it's not whether you have the right to bear arms, it's about the requirement to show a good reason to carry a concealed weapon.

I think your missing the point. The 2nd Amendment reads "bear arms". It does not read "bear arms after showing good cause".

No, I didn't think I was. I'm not asking about banning firearms, or restricting open carry policies, I'm asking about one narrow view on concealed firearms.

Because "self-defense" wasn't seen as a good enough reason for regular citizens in many cases, so it could be used to restrict licenses to celebrities, politicians, and people with connections. If you're a law-abiding citizen, there is no reason to restrict your rights.

Because "show a good reason" becomes "we will not issue."
