Not sure what the model is from, but I really like that emberling.

I like the cartoony look of your orks... I mean Marauders. I've always been a fan of GW take on the Orks, so that may be why I like the cartoony look.

Also, super stoked about that new ruined terrain. I think its the best looking set Mantic has put out.

Agreed on the ruins, we have an event in Birmingham (UK) next saturday called the UK Board Games Expo, the missus has given me a little hobby fund to go with and visit the Mantic stand there. So hopefully I can get a look at the set in the flesh and also pick up some other terrain/DZ/Malifaux.

The Emberling is part of the Malifaux Rail Crew, each crew leader has a Master and that Master has what is known as a Totem. The Totem is either a magical representation of the Master's soul/magic/ambitions or a close associate. In this case the Emberling is (taken from the PullMyFinger Malifaux Wiki:

"Emberlings are minor fire elementals that inhabit the steam engines and furnaces of Malifaux. Mei Feng has a fondness for these little sprites and is often found with an Emberling trailing after her."

I was a bit dubious about the almost GW Red Era Marauders but I am happy to go full pelt with that scheme now.

So some definite progress when it comes to my first forays into the World of Malifaux, I have completed my first ever crew. 3 rail workers later and The Rail crew are done:

And group shot:

This in turn lead to me moving onto my next crew, The Guild's Judgement headed by this dangerous lady, I introduce:

Lady Justice

She is supported by:

The Judge:

I absolutely love this crew and it has been a joy to paint, so much so that I have completed the crew. So I end this update with a question, what is the image limit on each dakka post? Still to come we have the amazing Death Marshal models...

Automatically Appended Next Post:
This may be added to my previous post, it may not, who knows? But Death Marshals (with what many consider as fire painted the "wrong" way but my minis, my scheme :

Death Marshal: Codename Uncle Fester:

Death Marshal: Codename Froggy:

Death Marshal: Codename Wallenda:

And the finished crew:

today I have already started my Relic Hunters Crew and tomorrow temptation awaits at the UK Board Games Expo.

Hell. Yes.

The Marshalls are great. I love the colors and everything. You did a good job with the coffins too. Are you saying they're painted 'wrong' because you did the fire in reverse? Yeah, eff that, paint them how you want, I think it looks cool.

I think the Executioner is my favorite. Wicked hat and a cool pose.

The one rail worker, the one with the drill arm. I gotta as what is up with is face? Seems sort of lacking there, is it the angle of the shot or something up with how it was shaded? Everything else looks good.

Oooooph, have only just seen that picture and it does look very off, I think it is a combination of too much direct lighting and a bad angle maybe? the good thing for anyone doing a blog is that it does give you a chance to review your miniatures in a different way. May revisit his face tomorrow just to be sure though.

I agree on the (my mistake, it is The Judge and not the Executioner) CC, great pose and a great miniature. The Malifaux plastics are fast becoming my favourite on the market, but not always to put together due to fiddly/fragile parts. For example the new Killjoy has seen a lot of broken weapon chains:

Not my painting, but look at the thinness of that chain. Fine for display, not so good for gaming.

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JHkNnoamNuc/U3hh5GdfNsI/AAAAAAAACTs/FRvNE-ebd3E/s1600/killjoy.jpg

Now onto more painting I have started on my relic hunter wastrels, basecoat and wash of Agrax earthshade.

The wood for the bases is rescued from the old GW Fellowship Of The Ring terrain, the stone pieces will feature on some more of my minis to come. Also you may also be able to tell that Doombull Brown is my new best friend and will be featuring on a lot of my Guild Malifaux models.

I just love the Victorian/ Steampunk/ future/ Gothic horror setting Grim.

I went to the UK Board Games Expo today and picked up a few thing.

The Deadzone Landing Pad, I was a little surprised by the retail packaging on this given that the original battlezone was a heavy set cardboard box and sleeve. I can see why they have done it though, a great way to reduce packaging costs for Mantic.

A couple of new Malifaux crews I picked up:

Rail Golem. Guild Arsenal Deck and the A5 Rulebook:

I will start with the Rail Golem tomorrow but for now here are the two sprues:

So far so good with the basecoats. I agree that Malifaux has some great models. I'm less of a fan of the system itself, but I have picked up a couple of them here and there to paint up and maybe use in other games.

You aren't kidding about how thin they make some of their plastics. Check out the ninjas for the one faction, they have chains all over the place. I have the one relic hunter lady with the flaming staff that I need to paint up, and I always feel like I'm going to break her when I'm moving her around.

But its all excellent work with the plastics, so I just gotta be careful with them.

Agreed on the system of play, after 5/6 read throughs of the rules I still have no real idea of what is going on. I will press on with it though.

Whilst going through my bits box the other day I found a number of sprues of these bad boys, so I am going to put them on bases and make some clumps of trees for Malifaux/Deadzone. For Deadzone I see them as the trees you get in shopping centres/malls to add a bit of natural colour to them.

Terrain wise I am also going to use some of the old LOTR Fellowship of the ring terrain to provide some cover for games. And, of course, I have to get started on the DZ Landing Pad.

Also on the subject of terrain has anybody worked on the Micro Art Studio HDF terrain? Looks exciting. http://shop.microartstudio.com/wwx-western-cottages-p-1009.html

I have also started on the Rail Golem, it is big piece of kit.

Scale shot next to a DZ Plague model and a Rail Crew member:

I am pretty sure that I can paint up the Golem in double quick time so Avance!

Stomp...stomp...stomp along comes the Rail Golem.

I am quite happy with him considering the time spent on him, I can see a few areas in need of a touch up but he will look great with the rest of the Rail Crew.

@Squall: Am going to start building the landing pad at the weekend.

For now I have been concentrating on other terrain, with the old LOTR walls:

Basically I do this, do a layer of sand on the base with pva glue,it is a more coarse mix than what I use to base my miniatures. I leave it to dry for 24 hours before adding another coat of watered down pva to seal the sand to the base.

A black spray undercoat is then drybrushed grey progressing to white. A small seraphim sepia wash is then added to complete the buildings, it is quick and easy.

And finally here is what I am doing with my Fake Plastic Trees (spot the Radiohead reference?)

In the coming days I plan to paint my Relic Hunters crew and get back on the Deadzone wagon.

Whenever you field that Rail Golem, you just gotta quote lines from Major Payne.

"Choo...chooooooo..."

It looks good! And I like the bit of patina goin' on in the brass bits. A nice little touch that adds some color to something that would be otherwise rather two tone. I just noticed on my second look that the firery grate in the chest/stomach is a little hard to see, but it does have the reddish glow goin' on.

Good lookin' model chief.

Thank you very much everyone, I was pretty happy by the vedigris too and all it took was a watered down Hawk Turqoise wash.

Have played around with the landing pad over the weekend, if you copy the structure on the package it is a big piece of kit. However, I wanted it for Deadzone use rather than general sci-fi gaming so decided to make two structures out of it. The added variety given by the new sprues is excellent, I want to get my hand on the fortifications and ruins now too.

Structure 1:

Structure 2:

Also got some barricades out of it:

Overall a great set, I love the Deadzone terrain, it is cheaper and offers far more customisation opportunities than most other things out there on the market. If you play 40k or some other form of sci-fi game I recommend it heartily.

On the painting front expect some malifaux Relic Hunters progress soon.

Huh, other people make the neatest things out of the BZ tiles. Those are really cool structures ToT

I'm having a hell of a time getting myself out of the square buildings box, these shall hopefully serve as inspiration. I love the additional angles that the LP sprues add to the set, and who doesn't need a few barricades now and then!

Good work! Looking forward to more, still not sure how I feel personally about the Malifaux guys, but you always make them look nice

The new angles open up whole world of structures, I may go mad one day and get a load just to see what can be done.

My structures here involved no planning whatsoever and just came about organically with little thought really. The LP legs also open up a world of possibilities, I have not even scratched the possibilities yet.

Malifaux wise I can see why people would not like it, but the whole Steampunk/Gothic/Future horror does it for me. It reminds me of a a game I saw called Smog 1888, but the scale and resin prices put me off.

Deadzone wise I plan to have all my 1st shipment stuff painted before you lucky guys get wave 2 in 4-8 weeks odd.

Man... I'll be lucky if I get enforcers, marauders, and plague strike teams (not entire factions) done before then... Maybe rebs but I have two dioramas I'm building and a host of Infinity minis I really want to get to work on...

That's what it is.. steampunk. I don't dislike it out of principle... it's just more that I haven't seen it in a flavor that I like yet.

Ohman. Yes. Smog 1888 has those completely ridiculous figures that ooze (sometimes literally) more character than entire armies of other things.

I didn't realize there was a game for it, I just remember the completely amazing models (and the equally impressive paint jobs).

I first saw the Smog 1888 minis at Salute 2011, I may get some one day. The games seems like a pretty simple "beer and pretzels" type affair with cards rather than dice.

I was very sad at the death of Rik Mayall the other week, so a little tribute:
