That is correct but destroyer weapons do say no special rules or rolls can save you. Is this a special rule or roll?

Yes it's a special rule.
However I'd like to point out the Destroyer rule says you can't save against any damage caused by Destroyer weapon. In this case you arn't doing that.
The field negates the hit, specifically before you roll to wound (or in this case rollon the D chart). No damage is being saved against. There's no damage caused to begin with, something I feel the Destroyer rules don't rule against.
It's a bit like saying a missed to hit roll is somehow saving you from damage. If no roll on the chart is made, no damage is caused.

I get that, the rule is really quite vague and a bit of a mess all round.

You're not wrong!
Anything involving Str. D is a mess.
Game breaking in it's stupidity, and poorly written to boot!

And this is why S: D belongs in Apocalypse.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

I don't believe that it works on the grounds that like the Manta Energy Shield, it disregards hits, and Forgeworld has said that the Manta shield can't stop D weapons.

The manta Energy shield is a 4+ invulnerable save, so not anything similar to clone field at all.

Clone field is before you are unable to not save..... Same as Void shields. If VS works clone field does. If VS doesn't Clone field doesn't, each for the same reasons.
Clone field 'nullifies' x number of 'hits'.

The way i'd probably put it:
Can a D weapon miss a Roll to Hit?
Does the Clone field *force* 2 misses on your rolls to hit (in a way?)?
To which i conclude it would work.
Side note: would Prescience allow a Knight to re-roll to hit? (CC & Shooting?)
