Daemon rush with fiends/hounds/screamers. Deep strike your troops and take two FMC and three soulgrinders. You can even keep it simple by taking one big guy and four heralds on mounts to keep pace with your fast attack. Daemons can beat the deathstars and dont have to feature much shooting.

Deathstar armies are in poor taste being the flavor of the month this edition. You can take or counter them with daemons the easiest (see Adepticon this weekend). Hopefully you wont have to deal with it much.

All other assault armies need shooting now to be effective. Orks, Tyranids, Chaos, etc all need guns to work.

The warpstorm table is much better for the Daemon player. Taking Fateweaver or rolling the warlord trait makes it lopsided. Daemon armies 2nd turn charge and habe a bevy of tools.

Grey knights come with shunting, small arms with the assault profile, free power weapons on everything, and hammerhand.

I would think going assault you would want lots of bodies to soak up the shots, so Nids or Orks could be the way to go. Go horde instead of small Elite, unless that is your plan.

Tyranids aren't an assault army. They have good assault units, but the main focus of the army is close ranged firepower supported by mid and sometimes long ranged firepower. Once they've done damage, you should have set your assault units up for a mop up assault.

Tyranids being an assault army is a big misconception, and playing them as such is a great way to make the game hard for yourself.

Eldar+DE Beast-star is currently the top of the assault army lists. What other army can pull off a single CC thats over 2 feet long on turn 2 and potentially win it in the first round?

Is that really an assault army though? I see a shooty army with a CC deathstar.
