Corporal punishment in schools is still legal in some states, although I don't know if any schools still actually use it.

That's what I wonder too. None of the bus drivers I had in school would have put up with anything close to that.

Every bus driver I ever had was exactly like Mrs. Crabtree (I think that's her name) from South Park. Strict disciplinarian. Lots of yelling. Sit down, and STFU!

If you think bullies go away by you giving no response, you're a fool. That's the nice word. I have better. I got tortured in school by one guy, even though I never gave him the satisfaction of a response. He just kept going until he moved away. Eventually, I had a guy who "teased" (aka, bullied) everyone. He went too far one day and I throttled him and ended up smashed his kneecaps on the dorm floor. He had to go to the hospital and was on crutches, but he never harassed me again after that. Which was more effective? Ignoring the HS bully or kicking the gak out of the college bully? Oh...yeah. The latter. Again, good for the kid on the bus.
