As has been pointed out numerous times since the faqs went down, the lack of current availability doesn't suddenly render a publication null and void.

The current Tau faq will remain the current Tau faq until it is replaced.

That's not how the BL is apparently approaching it:

On this page you’ll find all current updates to the print editions of Games Workshop’s range of Warhammer, Warhammer 40,000 and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey games.
These documents bring the print editions up to date with any recent rules or amends to their digital edition.
Where a book does not have an FAQ's and Errata document, none have yet been issued.

No FAQ on the site? Doesn't exist/count.

no missile drone spam according to my digital codex... so apparently that FAQ notion is still in... sorry to those that think its cool... you turn up in front of me with it and ill TFG you with a nice big NO..

edit, not directed at you CZ but to all those chumps trying to use an imaginary loophole to get around an errata.

Not imaginary, but it can still be fixed by just saying no, though I do wonder how codex: missile drone would play against Digital Codex: Tau

I agree that it shouldn't be played that way, but I am confused on how you know it is illegal.

my digital codex has the errata in it stating that missle drones may only be taken by X model... and you cant spam them anymore

you can add to that the person who wants to do it is trying to use their opponents ignorance to the errata to get by... 98% know that it was changed and just want to slip a fast one on people

And what about those of us who do not possess the digital codex?

My copy of the Tau codex only says that "X may take up to two drones from the Drones list." and the Drones list includes Missile Drones.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

If someone came up to you and said hey your army list is illegal, and I have a print out here that says so, would you believe him?

Not everyone knows from heart all the differences between the physical and digital codex. The only way is to either buy the codex again (which no one will), or go line by line and compare all the rules.

GW has stated that if there isn't an FAQ, there isn't any erratas.

I doubt anyone is going to play it this way except with explicit opponents permission. The reason I am asking is because you are saying that it is illegal. It may be poor sportsmanship and result in that player being shunned for being TFG, but I can't find anywhere it is actually illegal.

well we know there was an errata, anyone care to deny that?
we KNOW its in the digital version , which you cant edit.. so its not even a printout. its been erratted into it.

so you can ask to play with it knowing full well they have every right to say no, because well... you KNOW its not allowed and are looking for a cheap loophole to get away with it for a couple of weeks. your not going to get any more out of it than that.. so why even pretend that this could be an option for extended periods of time. and pushing it when you know better....

so its the same as me runniong say 8 heldrakes, i can do it with expressed permision the same as anyone else can play with ANYTHING you want... doesnt make the list "legal"

We, the forum users, knows there were erratas. New players who have only just started, will buy the codex and if they are told there are FAQs will go online and discover that there is currently no Tau FAQ, and a message saying that there is nothing that needs to be changed.

We know there have been many erratas to the tau codex through the years, currently none are legal due to the statements on the FAQ site.

The digital edition can be changed if it was hacked. If you believe that someone would put that much effort into cheating, then they could do so.

Currently the "current" FAQ is a universal house rule. You have shown circumstantial evidence but no proof that not using the old FAQ is breaking the rules.

And if we go with the stance that we know the codexes have been FAQ'd, then what is stopping a Tyranid player from citing the old Tyranid FAQ allowing them to roll on Biomancy?

Right now as it stands I do not have the FAQ for every army nor will I in the future. That being said if I go to my local game and play a new guy and he does not have a FAQ for his army because its not on the website there is really nothing we can do.

That extreme example is the ONLY way I could comprehend the "no FAQ on website means they don't exist anymore" argument.

Nothing. Just like there is nothing stopping them from claiming that their models all have a 1+ invulnerable save.

Yes, you can cheat if your opponent is not familiar with your army's rules. Well done.
