The Emperor is also stopping Demons from spilling through from the human sections of the webway.. I don't think a Dreadnought could sustain him.

the golden trhone wasn't designed as mere life support, it was designed a life supporting psybooster, i would have allowed the Emperor to pry open the webway, mapping it and forcing every damned gate to obey His wishes, f*ck warp travel that's dangerous and slow compared to the webway (which is NOT eldar's) so when the emperor's body was irreparabley damaged he has chosen to be interred in a modified version of the throne to allow mankind to keep using FTL, remember that the galaxy was split between horusians and loyalists so what would have happened to humanity if every world was forced to survive on it's own from that moment on? utter CHAOS and turning the whole crusade in wasted time
also the throne requires the Psy energy of thousands of psykers to work because the emperor got weaker each day after the final battle, and it's still getting weaker, millenia after it requires Waaay more than originally intended since it works on the Gestalt Principle
lastly if you think about Vulkan:

But one blip, even small would cause massive problems.

he Emperor without the Golden Throne could probably heals His own wounds given time (days, weeks, years?), but time is something Humanity don't have at all *cough* Terminus Decree *cough*
That is not definitively known. It might be that he could... but it might also be that he dies, and then gets reborn a thousand years later as an infant to some random parents on some backwater world somewhere.
Of course, by that time, the galaxy would have boiled away into the Primordial Ooze of Chaos.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised. |

i think we strayd from the main topic but, who cares...
if you think about the various visions abut the "end of time" we got:
Leman Russ trying to find the Seeds of Life which can cure anything and it should be ironically found in the garden of Nurgle, could be Lileath? her tears can cure any illines or posion
Lion' El Jonson is sleeping waiting the right time to wake up
it was predictet that they'll fight togeter against chaos
Guillliman is amost dead in stasis, POISONED
Jaghatai Khan is lost (probably in the webway or the warp)
Vulkan is going to return to his chapter when his artefacts are foundhe is part of one, the Unbound Flame
Anval Thawn the GK is probably the immortal warrior destined to fall at the feet of the Golden Throne at the "end of time" (and there goes the *Terminus Decree*)
if i put all togheter i think that:
i obviously couldn't speculate about what Alpharius Omegon, Cypher or Corax will do, also we know that neither the Emperor nor the Primarchs needed the astronomican
