No, neither can fire direct because "direct fire" is not a thing that exists in 6th edition.


They can fire with or without LOS, the min. range listed only determines if you subtract the firers BS. Better?

I enjoy my Basilisks, I've taken 3 in practically every game I've played since the codex came out. They do a great job to soften up my opponents while the rest of my army blows them up.

Last night I took them with Camo Nettings, if it wasn't for night fighting, I would have probably hit a few more things, but they lasted the whole game only losing 1 hull point.

But that's annecdotal I do agree with the deployment zone thing. Last night they did better because we played Hammer and Anvil on an 8x4 table, so I had some decent chunks of things to fire at and had the distance to keep them safe.

Storm Eagle Rockets cannot fire direct, it is stated in the wargear section. This makes the Manticore rather inaccurate, although it also means there is no detriment to staying out of LOS.
