I found cards against humanity great for play after a few drinks with friends. Shock alone isn't its value.

Havent played Project pandora.

Yeah a good dungeon master makes or breaks DnD

After reading this I want to dig out Gears of War again to play with the GF.

Relic is really good. Once up to speed with the rules it only takes about 2.5 hrs with 2 of you.

Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about his religion. Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life. Beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and of service to your people. When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.

They're good quality minis with decent detail; you can make out the ipod on a dead runner or the holes in the tights on the female walkers for example. . There are a variety of poses even in the basic set and there additional Zeds in the expansion are different. They are a medium hard resin cast mini but don't be put off by that, an evening with a sharp scalpel took the mould lines off, no need for files.

As for painting them, I hit them with a grey primer and greyscaled them (80-90 zeds in the basic set) over the course of a week. Even with this basic technique (IMHO) they look great - washed out colours really suite the minis too. Then proper painting on the heroes to make them stand out. I'm no Michelangelo but I have gotten quite a few positive comments down the Club. Theres quite a few images in google but I'll see if I can post some pictures of my basic efforts later.

Another question if I may! How many players can Zombicide support, or does anyone otherwise know a good boardgame that can serve 8-10 players?

From 1 to 6 but I don't see any reason not to increase that number if you have enough heroes to go around (only 6 in the Season 1 box - over 80 if you have all of the expansions, additional seasons and Kickstarter bonus minis). I don't see any reason not to have more heroes and adjust the difficulty. Zombicide uses a danger level system based on experience gained to generate zeds, just play one level above where you are - there may even be suggestions for this on the Guillotine Games website/boards.

How about Mice and Mystics.?

D&D style adventure co-op game, players are humans turned into mice and have to navigate the castle sewers and basement while avoiding "normal" pests like rats and lizards.

IIRC, it supports 4 (possibly a couple more?).

One thing I can tell you from hosting gaming nights is that you have 7+ people in you house its nearly always best to have two games going at once. Having everyone around the same table sounds fun, but really it usually just ends up being alot of waiting. The exception would be certain fast playing games like Sequence which really works well with 9, and 7 Wonders which tops out at 7, but because everyone is simultaneously active the number of players doesn't affect the speed of the game. Neither of which are miniatures-based boardgames though.

Awesome, thanks very much for the reply mate. Would love to see some painted examples if you have them hosted anywhere!

Thanks Eilif also, very useful to know.

Love some of the expansion packs - 'Moustache pack'? lol..

Is the Toxic City Mall expansion worth picking up as well?

Zombicide is built for 1-6 players, BUT: you can add additional players, adding a single zombie to each card drawn for each additional player. Meaning:
1-6=use the card as is
7=card+1 zombie
8=card+2 zombies
Etc etc

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Mansions of Madness and Last Night on Earth both get a +1 from me. I even played a "full scale" Last Night on Earth at Comicpalooza in Houston where they had volunteers dress as zombies. It was freaking awesome!

Anyway, for another board game with minis, I'd like to add FFG's Gears of War to the list. There are miniatures you can paint (not the most detailed in the world, but decent), and the rules are pretty simple. The # of cards in your hand is your character's life. When you run out of cards, you're incapacitated until someone else helps you. It's a cooperative game, if you're into that. I don't know anything about the video game it's based on, but I enjoy this one. Best of luck with your choice!

Hmm... Wouldn't the 'Last Night on Earth' rule be rather awkward in that case?

Toxic city mall is more of the same really - so well worth it IMO. 4 more characters, 4 more board tiles, a set of Toxic Zombies plus a host of new items and weapons and a new set of missions. It also introduces the Zombivor concept and includes 10 zombivor models (6 season 1 + 4 TM expansion). As you might guess Zombivor is a rather ugly mash up of Zombie and Survivor and when your character pops his clogs you get one of these chaps to carry on the fight. I'm still not sure I like the concept as the finite nature of characters in the original season was quite defining to me.

Spoiler:
As I say no painter (nor photographer!) but a week of 2hrs a night on holiday I got these on the table. I've only posed a few but when you get 40+ stomping down the street at your character it looks cool.

For a Board Game with miniatures, X-wing is a good option.

For regular board games, there are a TON of options and it depends heavily on the type of gamers playing and their interests. Here are some I recommend for different reasons and for different styles of gamers:

'Ascension': A very solid deckbuilding game that plays quick enough to be done in a 2 hour window and the rules for the game are very easy to master...as with most deck builders.

'DC Deckbuilder': I don't like the DC universe, but this game is fast and easy to enjoy with friends. I'd almost classify this as a 'party game' due to the ease of play and time involved.

'Cards Against Humanity': With a core group of people this game is simply an amazing party game. You could also add 'Apples to Apples'.

'Game of Thrones': A Risk-style game with some political manuevering. Good for the gamers that like a strategic game but are getting bored with Risk in its many incarnations.

'Twilight Imperium': Mind you, this game will require a learning curve and takes a chunk of a day to play. With 4-5 players that know the rules, this can take as little as 5 hours. Yes...I said as little as 5 hours. Games with new players run upwards of 8-10 hours with 5+ players involved. That aside, this is by far the most invovled 4x game out there. VERY enjoyable once mastered.

Granted that Zombies!!! is not the best game out there, it is still a pretty fun game with a nice simplicity to it. Just know that you will be getting into Mario Party-level screwing with friends with it.

If you're looking for the de-facto co-op boardgame, although it doesn't have miniatures, look no further than Pandemic. A somewhat lighter co-op game with similar mechanics (still no minis) would be Forbidden Desert (or it's arguably less good predecessor Forbidden Island).

I would also recommend these games. Mansions of madness is loads of fun, and you do get the impression that whoever designed it might be straddling the boundary between genius and insane. Gears is also a very good game which is entirely co-op, and it has a lot of self correcting mechanisms that mean it scales and balances really well. The first time we played it we misunderstood the rules and thought that you could play as many actions as you wanted per turn (instead of just one). That sounds like it should be game-breakingly easy, but in gears actions are connected to health so it still balanced perfectly, and in fact we lost (I still play it that way from time to time because it's so fun).

Zombicide and City of Thieves are good party games. City of Thieves is very quick to play, and you get to control a gang of four characters each which is cool. Though both games are quite simplistic.

Super Dungeon Explore is another fun game, with cute miniatures.

You might also want to look as some older games like Necromunda and Space Crusade:

In Space Crusade each team gets 5 marines with a choice of armaments, and then you go around a Space Hulk blasting aliens (and sometimes each other). There is probably more scope with SC for people to do a bit of modeling and converting too, since you could easily build and convert your own team (5 marines isn't going to break the bank). There is also a wealth of expanded rules out there, for using scouts, terminators and even non-marine boarding parties like Eldar and Orks (probably Squats too given its age).

Necromunda you probably already know about. I know it's not exactly a board game, and getting hold of the original GW models would be a bit pricy. But there are loads of great gang models you could pick up from lines like infinity (which IMO look better anyway), and it's a really great campaign game.
