Looks interesting. I'm a big Hellblazer fan, and this is an awful lot closer to the original than the Keanu Reeves film.

First part of the trailer looked pretty good. Then came in the terrible cg effects and bad props.

The same way that everyone watches region locked media in an electronic format.

Hulu doesn't work outside the US, but as I said above that hardly matters.

To be fair, most Americans have not heard a wide enough range of accents from the rest of the world to be able to tell the difference.

Sadly, Id have to agree... of the Americans that I personally know who can differentiate the variations on the "english accent" can do so because of watching enough rugby/international type telly... There really are quite a few differences between SA English accents, NZ, and Aussie accents. Then of course, you get England proper which has quite a few (some of which I cannot understand, at all), and the 2 "major" Scottish accents (Glasgow, and everyone else), Irish and Welsh have their differences, etc.

I can differentiate some, but I'd be utterly at a loss to actually place them where they belong.

For what it's worth, there are a lot of different accents throughout North America as well. I'm not even sure Newfies even speak the same language.

Hilariously, a lot of Americans can't tell the difference between those either. I got asked once if I was Australian because I said "no worries" to someone. I grew up in Illinois.

Imagine if a Texan actor was playing the part of a character from Boston but alternated between accents from Minnesota, Louisiana, Massachusetts, California and Newfoundland.

That's what a Welsh actor playing a character from Liverpool sounds like when he alternates between Cockney, Scottish, "Generic Northern" and Irish accents.

I've heard that the lack of any and all smoking is part of an attempt to make it a bit more PG-13, anyone know if there is any truth to that?

If so, you'd probably get a better version of Constantine from watching True Detective.

Considering that he's been shown in the trailers carrying a lighter, I doubt they'd drop his habit entirely (perhaps have him trying to quit?).

Considering that it's going to be on the same network that just last Friday had a guy
Spoiler:
forcing his sister to have a non-consensual abortion, and hysterectomy (and possibly vaginectomy...) and then drinking her tears in a martini
, I seriously doubt smoking is going to be a huge concern.

Eh, Hannibal is something of a special case. Very few tv series could get away with the mushroom serial killer from last season.

And honestly, he wasn't the worst, imo, from last season

But in a strange state of our society, I think that many who are developing TV shows, for some reason, feel that showing someone smoking a cigarette (and be the hero... it's cool if theyre bad guys) is a million times worse than having a crazy guy turn people into a farm, or
Spoiler:
even a color palette, as we've seen in season 2

Which is exactly why I'm concerned that they will omit Constantine's eternal chain smoking, good guys don't smoke in modern TV just in case it makes kids think smoking is cool.

I liked nearly everything about that trailer except for Constantine himself, who acted like some kind of Poor Man's 10th Doctor- and I hated the 10th doctor.

America: We love our depictions of colorful violence and torture on TV, but if you ever show breasts* or smoking**, we will burn down your god damned studio.

*Don't get us wrong, we love them, but something something children.

And then there is HBO, where breasts and smoking are treated as endangered species in need of repopulation.

I am unconcerned they do this, CGI fags are expensive and the real thing is a liability for the actor.
The lung cancer story arcs can still still take place and he could be given a different fixation. Cheapest and easiest bet for filming is to make him a pill popper.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

I seem to recall, and it was brought up in another (albeit fictional) movie, "Thank You For Smoking" that most actors actually do smoke already, it's just that, with societal changes on views toward smoking, now they need to be paid extra to do so on screen.

It's just something that I've noticed over time, you can't really "act" out smoking. As such you can generally tell who does it and who doesn't.

Not just Americans. I am too focused on understanding the meanings of what the characters are saying to even bother with the accents .

John Constantine lived allover England, and people that frequently move tend to pick up, and drop into, various accents.
