Back in 5th, I decided to for the first time field Abaddon, despite knowing about his armlessness.

I had him in a 10-man termie squad, kitted up to the eyeballs in awesomeness. I was fighting Orks, and deepstruck them in between a pair of battlewagonz, so that I'd get into murder range instantly.

--Successful DS, no scatter.

--Abby + co shoot all guns at a Trukk, no dice.

--Ork turn.

--5-git Burna Boyz unit disembarks, I laugh.

--5 templates and nothing but 1's later, I'm removing all of the terminators and Abaddon, crying on the inside D:<

A 2nd ed game in the 1990s with another member of this forum (Slaanesh_Devotee). His Chaos Lord rips the turret off my LRBT, the weight proves too much for him and he is crushed to death by said turret (rolled for scatter, landed on him).

I think my proudest moment was back in 3.5 ed. I was running a iron warriors list vs. a world eaters list, with a bloodthirster. I had a chaos dreadnought that at this point was down to just to a plasma cannon and was assaulted by the bloodthirst. The dreadnought managed to get the bloodthirster down to 1 wound and then the bloodthirster blew up the dreadnought, which wounded the thirster and my opponent managed to fail both the save and fnp, so now my dreadnaughts most important kill was from a suicide attack.

I always remember the day a friend of mine took down a Stompa with a lone guardsman. I believe he was the last survivor from a platoon command squad, meltagun, hit the Stompa, penetrated, and caused the chain reaction thing which completely took it out. It was the first time the Stompa had been used as well!! XD

Another first outing I remember, but not for the good, was my terminator squad back when I first started playing. I deep striked the unit in a nice open area, scattered twelve inches into a building and the whole unit was wiped out... I was far from happy!!

I always try to keep this up to date with what projects I'm working on... but they just keep piling up

My favorite 40k story was an opening turn against a Space Wolf player, who was all mechanized and was playing a very optimal list for the Edition (3rd or 4th, I forget). We got through the end of my turn one, he went into his movement phase and gave up.

Basically I popped his Land Raider and Rhino with anti-tank weapons (Brightlances and Starcannons..remember when they were spammed?)and Razorback first turn. The poor Razorback died to sniper fire...I kind of felt bad. On his turn, his remaining troops in another Rhino attempted to drive out of terrain and immobilized itself. He gave up and I never saw him in the store afterwards due to the huge fit he pitched and people generally thinking he was a bit daft.

Now my favorite moment in the whole genre's history was a game of Battlefleet Gothic of 1500 points. My Oberon was sitting back and fired at an enemy Grand Cruiser that was in a huge scum in the middle of the board as the fleets were just meeting and mixed between each other in broadsides.

A few cascading reactor explosions later the only thing left on the board was the firing Oberon Battleship...who...looking at the roiling plasma in space that once comprised two fleets...went back to base to await new support ships.

Over the many years, so many events.

Long ago, when Ordnance had it's own vehicle damage chart. First shot of a game at one of the US GW GTs, got an Ordnance Penetrating 6 on a Landraider filled with the uber Marine Command Squad. All dead, and it was only a 1500 point game.

Or the time (again, older rules) when two lowly IG, the last two members of their squad, said screw it and charged an Archon with incubi retinue. Only model they could reach was the Archon, and there was no pile-in back then so it was them vs Archon. Archon whiffs. IG attack, hit and wound and the Archon FAILS his 2+ save so that the IG win the combat. Archon then fails Morale test and then the IG actually catch them on the sweeping advance.

I was part of a 3v3 game and most of the opposing team was mainly dead and the opposing Daemon player (after about 4 turns) finally got his Nurgle troop to Deep Strike in. He rolled the scatter dice and got the one direction and exact distance to mishap. Then he was wiped out by a Mishap.

I remember once being almost tabled by a 5th edition guard chimera spam. deciding i would be lucky to get a draw, made a conga line of gretchin stretching about 1ft which gained two victory points, and in the last turn my oponent opened fire with his whole army on the gretchin, i made so many cover saves that i had enough gretchin remaining to take the draw!

Back when I ran a game night at FLGS, had a quiet 10 year old playing against the 14 year old A-type. Objective was kill opposing warlord. A-type sets up and leaves warlord barely in the open in back row of his army. 10 year old's first shot is with a missile launcher at the warlord - this was back in 4th ed when you needed to roll on targets with intervening units. 10 year old makes all the right rolls and blows up warlord. Game over on first shot. A-type was stunned and spent the next 15 minutes trying to 'litigate' a different result.

My favorite stories usually involve Perils of the Warp, strangely enough.

First story is pretty tame, I just thought it was really funny. The game is Daemons vs. Marines, and the Daemon player has had his Great Unclean One just rampaging around the battlefield, taking out Marine squads and transports all over. By turn 5, the Marine player has barely managed to get him down to his last wound just through attrition, as well as forcing the GUC to keep charging through cover to get to the Marines. Turn 6 starts (Daemons have the top), and the Marine player is pretty much desperate at this point, because his firepower is basically gone. He's got a single tactical squad left sitting in cover that got a lucky roll to get away the last turn, and it's his last hope of taking down the beast. So the GUC gets ready to go, starts casting powers to buff himself for the battle to come, rolls for Iron Arm, and...promptly rolls double 1s and gets sucked back into the warp with a slight popping noise.

The second story involves my Space Wolves fighting against a Chaos Space Marine army, and it's possibly the worst bit of luck I've ever had on the first turn of a game.

So, first turn, I'm going first, everything is deployed and absolutely nothing has happened yet. I prepare for my first turn by casting some psychic powers on my Long Fangs with my Rune Priest. I roll for my first power, Perfect Timing, and the dice come up double 6s. No power, and I take a wound from Perils. Bit of bad luck, but ah well, there's a whole game to make up for it. I decide to cast Prescience on the Fangs as well, roll the dice for my power...and roll double 1s. Rune Priest takes a wound and dies from his head exploding.

The game had barely started, there have literally been two die rolls in the entire game (not counting pre-game stuff), and already I've granted my opponent both First Blood and Slay the Warlord. We probably spent ten minutes reading both of those rules to see whether or not he got them from my Warlord being an incompetent.

Back at the dawn of 5th i picked up a 2k chaos marine army, spearheaded by a one-armed abbadon (couldnt for the life of me get the other to stay) and a 5-man terminator squad. Playing a double apoc game with Knights of Blood (renegade BA) against Wolves and Scars.

So the game gets going... turn two i DS abbadon and his termies on a key point just in front of a scars bike squad on an objective in the enemy backfield. I play it safe, about 6-8" away from the squad and well away from any terrain pieces... Roll for scatter and lo and behold i scatter directly into the bike squad.

We rule that we can use Corbulo's reroll for teammates, and my second tells me to reroll the higher die, hoping it comes up short and i can at least salvage abbadon and a few lads. But no. I instead roll a 6, making it to where i am now in the middle of a bike squad. A roll on the mishap table later and Abby somehow managed to end up inside of a bike tyre all alone, getting endless concussions from repeatedly being bashed on his head.

Meanwhile a scars biker sergeant gets one hell of a bumpy ride. Needless to say i now play loyalist marines.

By the sound of it, you had at that point never heard of the whole "Abbadon the Armless" in-joke. The fact that one arm stayed on for the battle ought to qualify in and of itself for a "craziest moment in 40k".

The only time I might ever field Abaddon is with my custom Chaos Terminator Lord model, who wields a poleaxe instead of a sword.
Even though I have and actual arms-on Abby model.

He's still in disgrace from the time he got fried by ork burnaz.
He spends his days sitting next to my almost-unused Dark Apostle model, procrastinating about how tings were better in his day.

My secret fortress at the base of the volcano!

Okay, here's one of my favorites... back in 2nd Ed, I got in a game against a much more experienced player. He brought SM and I brought whatever models I had available, which worked out to be some SMs, some IG, and a few Agents of the Imperium (Tech Adepts, an Inquisitor). 2000 point game and, while I knew the rules, I didn't have a very good head for tactics. Fortunately, I didn't need one...

As we were setting up, my opponent pointed out his Land Raider to me, and informed me that it was the best tank in the game (not back then, it wasnt) and how his LR had never been taken out in a single game. He placed it in the middle of his line, on a hill, giving it a commanding view of my army (I didn't like terrain so I hadn't put any in my deployment zone). On the first turn, he tore into my army and killed a bunch of models because I had nothing to hide behind. He also used the psychic powers Iron Arm and Quickening on his Chief Librarian, which made him T10 and 4++ (not including his 3++ Displacer Field).

With half my army dead on the first turn, i decided that I wasn't going to win, so I wanted to at least hurt him. I decided to try to kill his LR. That was going to be my goal for the game. If I could frag his precious kill wagon, I would at least consider it a draw, no matter the points score at the end...

I fired the lascannon on my LRMBT and hit the track of his LR and managed to penetrate it, then rolled a '6' on the damage result, which flipped the LR onto its roof D6" in a random direction...

...Which brought it down directly on top of his SM Captain, killing him instantly.

Feeling pretty good about myself, I drove my flamer-armed Tech Adepts in their Rhino (my last mobile vehicle) straight up to his Librarian, and gave him a face full of ten templates from the side door. My opponent laughed at me, because S4 flamers could not possibly wound a T10 model (back then there was a cap on what you could would relative to your S). I then rolled to see if the Librarian caught fire, because that was a thing flamers did back then. Ten hits definately set the little blue bugger alight, and since they couldn't cause wounds to him, he didn't get any of his invulnerable saves to block it. again my opponent laughed, because being on fire couldn't wound his model.

Then I pointed out the rule that said that models on fire moved randomly and could take no actions (including the use of psychic powers) except to try to put themselves out. The only models which could ignore the effect of being on fire were models that were frenzied or in Terminator armor. I then pointed out that his Librarian was in regular old Powered armor...

The rest of the battle didn't go very well for me, as my opponent's army was still strong enough to beat mine without breaking a sweat, but at least his LR was dead and his Librarian never did put himself out.

i have two stories.
the first was when i played my marines against two other players, one-on-two, 2000 points. they were playing tau and ig. they allowed me to use the raven guard rules from the index astartes, and a command squad with jump packs, which included an apothecary, company champion, and a standard bearer, led by a captain.
i deployed them on the corner of the table, behind a hill, and first turn (i went last) managed to get them stuck in against a squad of stealth suits, which they demolished. the next turn, they took on a unit of fire warriors, and a crisis suit team the next, without casualties. and after that, they tackled the commander's crisis team, which was already down one from shooting the previous turn. they just hopped from unit to unit and unleashed all the righteous fury that a squad of angry, genetically engineered super-soldiers can muster. i think the final turn was the only one they didn't get a chance to assault, and they only took one casualty the entire game. it was a glorious day!
my other favorite moment was with my orks, against blood angels. i forget the size of the armies, probably 2000 points, but i do remember that i was just about down to nothing. my opponent had a devastator squad in cover near the edge of the table, and they had chewed many of my vehicles to pieces. the only thing i had left that could hit them was a trukk that had already unloaded its boyz, and had taken two hits, losing its big shoota and gotten immobilized, but had gotten rolling again thanks to grotz. i ran that trukk right into the squad, tearing into the trees where they had been dug in the whole game. they failed their morale check and ran the six inches to the board edge, leaving the game. that was just about the only bright spot in that game, but it was a good one!

Well, there was this one time i beat GK with my orks in one turn.....

1750pts and i normally dont list tailor but since i was orks vs GK i knew i had to do something special because current rules GK stomped orks without even trying. So i brought a SAG for some AP2 goodness. He brought a Draigo wing and a Dreadknight, and some random marines in the backfield.

Turn 1 he jumped his dreadknight 30" and burned 6 lootas out of a buildingtop. Seeing as it was the only thing i could even see let alone reach, i shot it and caused 2 wounds...one of which was because of the SAG AP2. To stall it i charged it with a random group of 15 boyz i brought fill out points and be annoying. They lasted just long enough for him to not be able to use this thing the next turn.

Turn2 his Draigo wing comes in and scatters like nothing else AWAY from me. He cant shoot anything besides a lowly boy or two, and hes scared silly of the SAG so he runs behind a wall out of sight that he landed next to. This was 8" away from the Dreadknight, btw.

My turn. Dreadknight isnt in combat now as my boyz be dead. Caused another wound without the SAG, and went to fire the SAG at it. BOXCARS!!! Ohhh yeaaah! Scattered 9 inches. Wait...the direction....landed directly on top of the entire Draigo Wing. SAG boxcar result does not wound, it just removes including EW and no saves since no wounds. I wiped Draigo wing in 1 shot and he was out of sight rofl.

Needless to say he just picked up his models and left after that LOL

I'll Be Back

I remember when a few months ago I had a single unit of Deathmarks solo almost an entire army of Nids.

The scenario: Nids vs. Crons.

So far, things are not looking good for the Necrons. Two turns of horrible shooting have pretty much allowed him to run right across the board and he's tearing through my deployment zone with his lots of gaunts, warriors, and a flying hive tyrant. On top of that, he has two Tervigons lumbering across the field, eager to join in the fray.

Turn three, the Deathmarks finally decide to show up. I deep strike them into rapid fire range behind one Tervigon and declare it as their target. Amazing rolling gets me 18 out of 20 hits, and with 2's to wound, 6's rending, the Tervigon basically evaporates, taking several Termagaunts with it.

Turn four begins. After passing his Instinctive behavior on the remaining gaunts, he retaliates by turning them around back towards the Deathmarks, along with the other Tervigon and the Hive Tyrant, though they are some distance away. The gaunts pour all their fire into the Deathmarks, but I make most of my armor saves, then the two that went down stand back up on double 5's like bosses. He then assaults the gaunts in, trying to tie them up long enough for the Tervigon to get into melee. He whiffs horribly, and the Deathmarks proceed to beat some faces inside out with their rifle butts. He then proceeds to fail Leadership and gets sweeping advanced! I roll a 6 for consolidation and use to it to move towards his Tervigon so I can get into rapid fire range again.

Now it's my turn. I move into rapid fire range and hope for the best, it's going to be more difficult now that I'm only wounding on 4's. This time, I get every single one of my hits, and then get seven Rending wounds! He then proceeds to fail all of his FNP rolls. Chalk up another Tervigon. Meanwhile in my deployment zone, i manage to take out the Warriors with whatever survivors I have left, though they die next turn to Hive Guard. Now he's down to one synapse creature.

Turn five begins. His Hive Tyrant drops into glide mode and soars pretty much right in front of my Deathmarks, then opens fire on them with two Twin-linked Devourers, getting several wounds. I fail three saves, but two of them stand back up again! Now he's laughing and shaking his head in disbelief, but both of us are thinking the same thing: the Tyrant, though only having two wounds left, is going to assault and then it's basically over. He charges.

I roll for overwatch, thinking this is pretty much the end, though it's been a good run. 18 dice tumble across the board...

Five 6's.

I pick up my dice again, not daring to believe. Surely, my luck is going to run out. I roll the dice again and look at the results.

One 3. One 4. One 5.

And two 6's. The Hive Tyrants deafening roar is silenced instantly as green bolts pierce it's eye sockets and vaporize it's brain. The towering monster shakes the earth as it crashes to the ground at the feet of the Deathmarks, who coolly survey the battlefield for more targets.

Ultimately though, the victory was still his, with two groups of gaunts sitting on two different objectives. I managed to destroy one group on my turn for what it was worth, but the game ended on turn 5.

Nonetheless, it was the most epic run by any single unit I have ever played with.

Here's the story of how an imperial knight titan got two titan-kills in an 1850pts game.

It was the first time I fielded my warhound titan. I ran everything pretty un-optimized: the titan had a plasma blastgun and a vulcan mega-bolter, while the rest of my army consisted of a happy mix of different SOB units and an aegis line. My opponent brought a mech/biker-heavy IH list, which was pretty strong but not tournament-level strong.

My first turn. Warhound and exorcist do nearly nothing. Rest of his army is out of range. His first turn. His whole army opens fire on my warhound, and a butt-load of sixes later it's removed from the field by a knight titan's melta cannon. First blood on a warhound titan.

Since it was only a friendly game with a lot of shenanigans, he simply says 'just put it back into reserves'. Turn four, the thing finally shows up and deep-strikes onto the middle of the table (don't ask) and once again completely whiffs his shooting. His fourth turn, he turns his knight around, knocks off a hull point or two, and then makes a goddamn 11 inch charge through difficult terrain. The combat resulted in a theoretical loss of thirteen hull points, and my warhound explodes again. We just called it a day then

I'm almost certain I've told this story on Dakka before, but I will again.

I had just gotten my friend to start, and he played Salamanders. This was back in 5th, so I was using my 4E Chaos Marines. It was a small game, I think 500pt. A Rhino full of Berserkers got to move once before getting immobilised. The Berserkers then disembarked and ran, killing a squad of Tactical Marines and wounding Vulkan He'stan once before the latter wiped them out. My Chaos Terminator Lord of Tzeentch with a Deathscreamer killed his Terminators in close combat, taking a wound from their storm bolters beforehand. His Tacticals shot down my Chaos Marines (already wounded by the Terminators), but were taken down to a few that were then shot to death by my Lord.

Now alone, Vulkan and the Chaos Lord ended their respective combats very close together. It was very close, but Vulkan won in the end, taken down to one wound. Just as my friend claimed victory, I remembered the Rhino; immobilised, not destroyed. It fired its havoc launcher at Vulkan, scoring a direct hit and causing a wound. Vulkan failed his 2+ save and died, leaving the battlefield completely empty except for a paralysed Rhino.

In 90s, when I play as blood angel against my dad Geoff Ork.

On my first go in game turn 1.
I use one of missile launcher at ork dreadnought, hit and kill pilot inside.. It just out of control and walk all over my dad ork boyz for the rest of the games! I won this battle, good childhood in that day. That day my dad say 'dice god are favour in you!' I don't understand what he mean until present day... I understand!! Hahaa

2011,
I play as ork, against tau. Tau go first and my ork are sitting ducking from volley and volley from tau long range rifle.. I keep sitting duck until game turn 3 I go "WWwwaaahhhh!!"

Tau player ask me why I do that? 'Sigh'... Show him the special rule and his eye open very wide! Watch how his tau are wipe out from wave after wave and wave of ork boyz!

In very same game turn I kill every tau in my reach until only three survival tau fire warrior escape from sweep advance...

In game turn 4, Tau player have three fire warrior against hoard of ork boyz and he just pack up and gone!

Last Sunday,

I play as tyranids against space wolf.
I fire my vermom cannon at tactic squad, scatter 9" away from my target but bullseye on devastator squad! Lot of wound apply to this power armour and armour save allow... 1,1,1,2, and 2!
It is my first blood kill
My hormagaunt charge on same tactic squad I missed... Declare a overwatch....10 men vs 10 hormagaunt... Gulp.....

In one massive 5000 pt game, I had a 4 man unit (lost one to other shooting) of close combat scouts with a shotgun/powerfist veteran sergeant manage to get the drop on a 12-wolf fenrisian wolf squad. My shooting whiffs, I make the charge, the knife scouts whiff most of their attacks, killing one wolf between their 9 attacks and their 6+ save. Meanwhile, the wolves have no issues making their attacks and killed off all but the sergeant. Now it was his turn, and he splats 3 wolves no problem. They fail their morale check and get swept, leaving this one scout looking at this massive gunline sitting on a hill. A unitof swiftclaws callously pass him by as a nearby master of ordnance gave the coordinates for the lone unfortunate, who is promptly wiped from existance.

In another part of that realm, a combined unit of DV cultists lead by a scrolls of magnus dark apostle (we said feth the allies matrix, along with turns, to the last man!) was benefitting from the power that granted a 5++ and reflected saved hits onto enemies 6" away (6th ed). My opponent, forgetting this, launched his unit of 5 rough riders with 2 flamers at them, and thought he'd make a barbeque of them.

Tzeentch, an ever-fickle master, said nope.

He scored many hits, and I lost 4 or 5 cultists, but I made an ungodly number of 5+ saves, and he lost most of the unit, as rough riders turn to crisp as easily as my heretics. They failed their morale check and ran back, but not off. A squad of skyclaws deepstrikes nearby and takes pot shots at the cultists, removing a few more and loosing one of their own to the bouncy shield. My turn, I focus the cultists on the rough riders, and my +1 T apostle at the skyclaws. Rough riders are filled with autogun shots, and the apostle whiffs his pistol shot. Goes to assault, overwatch. 2 hits, 2 wounds, 2 failed saves. Tzeentch was fickle indeed.

A little later still, those cultists were still around, despite standing in the open, and my marines are dealing with a TWC deathstar, including a decently kitted out lord on a wolf. My cultists, reduced to autoguns and a heavy stubber, just keep plinking away at the TWC, and keep inflicting one unsaved wound, time and again. He never put in the forces to deal with them, as there were bigger threats to contend with, but those sorry sods just kept on doing damage.

Ì have a few more little hilarity stories, but I don't want to make an even bigger wall of text than I have already.

2nd edition. My lone Blood Angels Marine verses 2 lemun Russ Battle tanks. A good roll with a Krak grenade destroys the first Lemun Russ. The turret flys off and demolishes the second Lemun russ.

Also had a game in second edition where my Blood Angels were mercelessly gunned down, leaving only Lord Mephiston. Mephiston then proceeded to wipe out the entire enemy force by himself.

I won a tactical squad in a store apoc game with man of the match. I had ML1 Libririan with a force axe fend off (all on his own) 30 gene stealers in CC. They were in CC the whole game. By the end the were only 5 left.

My own chapoter, The Broken Swords. Almost a full company.

I had a Scout Sniper weather a couple of turns of Lootas, a Big Mek, and some Killa Kanz shooting him up. He was behind a defence line holding the objective worth 4 points (after he and his squad had made a mad dash across the table to get there, the rest of whom didn't quite survive).

Meanwhile, my not-Celestine took a Slugga round to the head from the Nob of a mob of Boyz while she tried to charge them.

Ended up winning that game with the only thing I had left being that Scout. My mom had 2 Killa Kanz, 11 Lootas, a Big Mek with SAG, and a mob of 20 Shoota Boyz.

There's also the time when I forced a scatter die to roll its direct hit thing. Twenty times in a row. Though it's entirely possible I was hallucinating, as my schizophrenia was going untreated at the time since no one knew I had it yet.

Mine has to be from 7 years ago (when I was 12 and only just starting out) when I was playing my first 1500 point game of space marines. I wanted to field Marneus Calgar with his command squad so bad but I didn't know how to play them, so I just set them up by themselves in my deployment zone with the intention of running them across the board into combat.

This was also the first time I'd ever seen Tau, let alone faced them and was promptly shocked at their firepower. However, this didn't stop my chapter master from making it across the board and wiping out a unit of broadsides and two full teams of fire warriors before finally being brought down! He was an absolute tank that game haha
