Wow, never heard of ETF, gotta look into that, these miniatures look cool ^^
The mask on your thief is awesome ^^
One complaint is maybe the red on the dragoon is a little flat compared to the armor. Maybe give a little depth to it with either a shade just beneath the armor or a highlight on his butt? Or as you say maybe a darker red will help. Are you really making him a grimdark character, or you just want the colours to make him look a little more threatening?
It could be the lighting, so maybe it looks good when taking a pic with your lightbox :p But the armor looks cool :p

You really should look into them. The rules are easy to learn but the character cards add a TON of variety and combos to keep it real interesting. And I've since painted my Dark Priest and have to say, the minis look so much better with paint on them, now I want to paint up my risen warrior.

So!

I took another stab at the Dragoon. I washed the armor again, and then started highlighting out the purple... again. But rather than using a lighter purple like Warlock Purple as my mix, I started mixing in Enchanted Blue with Lich Purple instead. I think we have a winner here.

It's a little bright (again), but it captures the more indigo look I was going for. I tried to bring out the red a bit with some orange, but it just seems to overpower my highlights. I may have to mix something up, but I don't want it to start turning pink... maybe add some yellow to the red to bring it up?

It also helped with the purple and red clashing I think. I think if the model was majority red with a purple accent it would work fine, like on Blood Angels and the like, but I wasn't really digging the inverse.

Much happier with it now though. Thoughts?

Wow, still looking great ^^ I think the purple wasn't bad, but maybe this combination of red and blue is just better.
On the red of the cloak I'd say darken it up. It depends how realistic you want to paint it ofcourse, and you could just leave the red like that. But take a look:
Spoiler:

I'm thinking there's not that much highlighting compared to the amount of shades here. So maybe you could try to darken the red in general, and highlight with the red you've got right now?

Although if you want the miniature to fit the EFT range I really think you're really good just leaving it like this ^^

Hmm... yeah. I dig.

I think the problem I'm having is that the fabric isn't as dynamic as that cloak you showed is. The cloaks is billowing and swirling with all these peaks and valleys. And the torn up tabard of the Dragoon is just sorta... hangin' there.

I'll give it one more go and see what I can make of it.

I'd say this is the time to step out of your comfort zone, painting wise, and try finding something dynamic. Push your skills at least a little bit, and you can improve. Hell, the worst that happens is you hate it, white it out and try again but red is a good color to add some dynamism with because it's a bright, eye grabbing color.

Off that horse though, I'm really digging the purpley blue hue you went with. That's a great color for a dragoon, dunno why, it's like red on a Ferrari, it just had to be that color.

I think I like him better this way chem. The hues seem more complimentary. Nice one!

Another sweet plog! I think EFT has such potential. The lower model count really makes it a more feasible game, imo. I'll be keeping an eye on your progress, CC

@RiTides - Thanks chief. Looking forward to making progress!

Didn't get to finish up the Dragoon last night. The A/C conked out on us, so I spent the evening poking it with a stick. By the time I got it running again I was too damn tired, and the air outside the house was cooler than the air inside the house.

Tomorrow the gang is coming over, and painting shall happen!

The Dragoon and Thief are ace, I may just prefer what I call the "Helfather" Dragoon scheme though.

Haha! Truth. I really did like how those colors came out on your Dw-... Helfather. I bet if I had done gold or bronze accents it would have been even better.

Neat blogthing, need to go back and read, but I'll try to keep up now. What I saw while scrolling, however, was impressive

Thanks Grimdork! Pull up a chair and hang out.

I've only been indulging in the model side of the game for now, as I don't have enough to play a game yet, but I'm gradually building up to it. Things like the beastmen and the like look fun to paint, so I'll likely be snagging a few of the monsters as soon as I'm fiscally able to do so.

That being said, I did manage to put the final touches on the two guys I've been working on. I'll break out the lightbox later this week and get some good photos up I promise. But for now, I'll just shut up and post the shots.

(Proof I actually painted what face could be seen.)

This shot makes it look like he has an eyepatch. And I can't help but regret not giving him an eyepatch now.

Alrighty, that's it for now! I'm gonna have more stuff on the way, but orders must be placed first. I love these two, and am looking forward to picking up a few more. Maybe I'll work on a board to play on in the meantime...

Thanks guys! I had a lot of fun painting them. I wish I had more guys to paint, but now I must wait patiently for the next order. In the meantime I'll likely experiment a bit with my light box and see if I can get that working how I want it.

For now, I have some Infinity stuff that wants paint, and some Heavy Gear models that are on the way for an RPG I'm running. So next paycheck I can get that Knight and Priest from EFT I want.

Hobby ADD, I has it.

Thanks guys. I'm really trying to do the models justice, and they have been a ton of fun to paint.

I actually just dropped my order for three more models to work on, so I'm looking forward to their arrival! (I figure sometime early next week).

In the meantime, I got my little booth set up and snapped some pics of the Dragoon and Thief proper. I'm still working out my camera settings... I'm tempted to use my old phone, since it actually had a very functional Macro setting that worked really well. Also when Dakka compresses it gets a little fuzzy unless you zoom.

Ah well, I'm making excuses, here's a bunch of photos!

Second wave! Assemble!

I'm bouncing between fidgeting with these and cranking away at my Heavy Gear stuff. They actually came in on... Monday, which was wickedfast turnaround. So serious kudos there. I didn't pick up the Dark Knight, but that'll be the next thing I order once these three are done.

Reeeeally looking forward to painting them. Maybe this weekend! We shall see.

What have you got there? The one guy looks like a monk, but I'm unfamiliar with the other two. I'm getting some serious final fantasy tactics nostalgia here.
