or these;
Spoiler:
I always wonder what Hybrid Son Of Oxayotl's agenda is, his/her flaming comments are not really going to detract the pro-gun camp.
The only thing that disturbs me is that the guy seems to have a history of mental problems, could get access to a shotgun so easily.

Grey Templar, you make a claim about US homicides being due to organised crime, and I give you a link from the FBI that shows that isn't true... and you don't comment at all?
I'd let it slide, but this not the first time that claim has been made on dakka, and each time I've seen it I've offered that link, and I'm pretty sure you've made the argument before. It's kind of boring to think that people will keep believing that myth by just ignoring the evidence that proves it false.
Smacks wrote: I agree. I've heard a lot of the arguments against 'gun control' and in a weird way they make sense, but mainly because trying to control guns in the US just seems like an exercise in futility. That doesn't mean that it is a bad idea in principle.
Maybe it's futile. Certainly efforts in the last couple of decades have been futile. In fact, I'd say just as the pro-gun side needs to accept the basic reality that gun saturation is a direct cause of the high homicide rate, it's just as important for the anti-gun side to accept that efforts at legislation over the last couple of decades have been somewhere between ineffectual and just plain nonsensical.

To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Honestly, it's a cultural thing. Hand guns are prohibited weapons in the UK. There is almost no legitimate reason to have one. Certainly not for self defense or for sport. Even the British Olympic pistol shooting squad has to go abroad to practice. The American attitude towards guns is obscene by contrast.
There hasn't been a school shooting in the UK for 18 years. The last one was Dunblane which was perpetrated by a man who already owned four hand guns (legally). There hasn't been any since the laws on hand guns changed. In that time there have been over a hundred incidents in US (I actually lost count). There are so many that there is one Wikipedia page for the US, and one for the rest of the world.

I am a bad man for owning personnel fire arms to the world for I am allowed to own fire arms if for no other reasons then just own some antiques, a weapon I am familiar with, and a historical weapon. I must be truly bad. Not.

It's been a weird week for the usual pro-gun rights narative.
I think there have been four "attacks" in the last 7 days or so, three of which seemed like they targeted areas where armed people where known to be present and the one that attacked a gun-free zone was stopped by a person without a gun.

Well, who cares anyway? This second amendment is not the ultimate source of wisdom. It is an old amendment. You can make a new amendment that will the that the old amendment is applicable only to sword and dagger, or you can make a new amendment that says it applies also to nuclear submarines.

And finally I have one that's just for taking to the range for shooting, or its my CCW.
Honestly, 3 hand guns isn't excessive.
Nor would having 3 hand guns and an assortment of longarms.
12 guage for hunting/home defense, .308 for hunting, AR-15 for home defense/shooting at the range/hunting.
Its no more excessive than having 3 40k/Fantasy/Warmachine armies. Except unlike the miniatures the guns have practical uses in addition to having fun.

But seriously, in this country you can not go wrong with a sword or a spear for home defence.

I heard about the Las Vegas shooting, and although horrible I couldn't help but start laughing. Shooting two unaware cops in a pizza shop is a "revolution"? Yeah, here in the Deep South(where an ungodly amount of people are drawing a check) everyone is rising up to throw off the shackles of our government! This story just has stupidity written all over it, but then stupidity and racism go hand in hand.
It almost seems like it happened around here: Racists- Check. Wal-Mart- Check. Greasy food- Check.
Looks like the wackos in Vegas ran into a CHLer which forced them back and then they wacked themselves.

Not quite...
McMahill said Joseph Wilcox, 31, was in the store and was carrying a concealed weapon. Wilcox walked past Amanda Miller and confronted her husband. Amanda Miller then fatally shot Wilcox, McMahill said.

Crime, particularly violent property crime, actually declined over the Great Depression. The likes of Dillinger were actually at the end of a wave of crime that started in the 1920s, that started with the availability of motor cars that made criminals much more mobile.
Similarly, there's been no change that I've seen in the rates of violent property crime over the Great Recession.
Honestly, I'd put this recent spate of killings down to some combination of the copycat effect, greater media reporting and statistical anomaly.
Cool. Sorry if I felt like I was calling you out or anything like that.

Honestly, swords and other melee weapons give all the advantages to the party that practices with them. To whit, the one that doesn't have to work many hours at a menial job instead of practicing. The rich. That's why peasant revolts didn't really work until guns were a thing and allowed someone with a few weeks of practice to be really really deadly. Actually it was the Crossbow and not guns that did that.
Heck, there was a pretty big movement by many parties in europe to try and ban crossbows during the middle ages. Never caught on because, while the nobility didn't appreciate the fact a peasant with a few hours of training could kill an experienced noble with decades of training(while wearing a suit of armor worth a fortune), they also appreciated what their own little army of crossbow armed peasants could do.
It also allowed towns to catch on and led to the decline of the feudal estate. Town militia armed with crossbows were more than a match for anything a noble could toss at people, thus towns began to prosper and feudal estates began to lose their prosperity.

The rise of towns was due to the agricultural revolution. With more efficient farming practices you had less people working the land, leading to surplus labour now being used in crafts and the acquisition of tradegoods.
And those towns developed in the midst of the stabilisation of the feudal order, not its decline.
It had nothing to do with weapons technology at all.
