Deathwing is a completely different game, but I'm really happy with how that game's turning out, and how good this expansion/sequel to the boardgame adaptation looks. Glad the developers are still supporting Space Hulk.
The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

Agreed, DW looks spiffy. 40k: Space Marine wasn't actually bad for a generic FPS, and DW looks better.
I actually really enjoyed Space Marine, despite a handful of tiny fluff annoyances, which is a testament to how fun the mechanics were since I normally nitpick the gak out of fluff annoyances no matter how small. I'm constantly gutted that I only got the PC version(with Iron Hands DLC & everything) after the point it seems everyone stopped playing the multiplayer
Seems I made the right choice not to pick up Space Hulk at the time though, it's a shame for the folk who did that we'll now be getting this apparently much superior version.

I remember seeing a Steam sale for the current Hulk version, the #1 review described it perfectly.
quote:
"Space Hulk is a game about how terrible it would be if you and all your friends were the size of refrigerators, and you all lived in a house made of hallways so ..."
I suggest going out and checking it out, it made me chuckle.
no seriously, I am looking forward to the next installment ! and Eternal Crusade as well !

When I arrived in Cologne, my curiosity about a mysterious “new turn-based game based on Warhammer 40K” by Full Control was quite high. Admittedly, I was very surprised when I found out that it was Space Hulk Ascension.
Space Hulk Ascension is a turn-based strategy game, much like the original Space Hulk released last year. This is not an expansion, as the developers pointed out, but it’s a standalone and independent project; they told me that it’s like a different way of playing the same game.
Truthfully, it’s more like the revised and enhanced version of last year’s game, and I’d go as far as calling it Space Hulk 2.0. I’m talking about an improved graphics with better lighting and more content/features. It seems like the studio is keen to enhance every aspect of the previous iteration.
The game features a very long single-player campaign, packed with more than a hundred missions. I have not been able to personally experience what the single player campaign has to offer, but there will be three fully different campaigns, each one dedicated to a popular Space Marines chapter: Space Wolves, Blood Angels and Ultramarines, who have been added in Space Hulk Ascension.
The biggest new feature is probably the addition of RPG elements, such as the ability to earn XP during missions, which will then be used to increase attributes and skills. You will also be able to customise the names of your soldiers (much like in XCOM), their loadout and even outfits. There are new weapons at your disposal, influencing the approach to missions, and new rules have been implemented to make the whole thing a deeper experience. Even the feared enemies of the Space Marines, the Genestealers (the evil creatures that lurk in the dark tunnels of the Space Hulk), have been upgraded; now there are three variants of Genestealers (Fleshhook, Feeder Tendril and Acid Maw biomorphs), with the goal to encourage people to adopt the most appropriate tactics depending on the enemy they’re currently facing.
Finally, Full Control added a new type of secondary missions, called “flash missions”: you’ll get them while exploring the Space Hulk, but be warned, as they might turn out to be either a juicy opportunity or a lethal trap…
Space Hulk Ascension is a massive upgrade from the basic game. It’s a stand-alone edition, which will probably make happy all those who were not fully convinced of purchasing the base game. The release date has been tentatively pinned for Q4 2014 on Windows, Mac & Linux PCs.

I'm guessing they couldn't afford to make it as shiny and awesome as the version they'll be releasing now. Occasional glitches aside, the current Space Hulk is still very enjoyable/stressful to play (in a OMG they're comin outta the walls man!! kind of way)

Y'know, I think a Space Marine-esque build inside a space hulk with a Deadspace sort of feeling would be pretty awesome. Maybe have it squad based like Republic Commando so that you can build on a squad that you develop a relationship with.
Either way, I like the top down view they're offering.

The reviews are incredibly positive; I think the best summary basically said this was "Space Hulk the video game" instead of the previous Space Hulk which was just an "animated board game" - this adds RPG elements, customization, percentage based combat, and generally isn't a 1:1 translation of the rules.

Or 15% if you already bought the first one.
Or 25% until Nov 19th.
If you can keep your head, while all about you are losing their's, then you have probably completely misunderstood the situation!

It’s the start of a new year, and we are finalizing the plans for this years production in relation to SH and SHA.
The primary focus is naturally expanding on Ascension, but also the good old Space Hulk has some news.
Space Hulk Ascension
Multiple full chapter + campaign expansions
We are working on multiple expansions similar to the recently released Imperial Fists, where we add a full chapter with additional special rules as well as a fully playable campaign, that you can play with any chapter that you own.
Which chapters are being added will be revealed as we get the models produced and can announce things properly.
The campaigns themselves are going to try to twist and bend the system a little into different directions to make them special.
For these future campaigns we want to give the story missions more love and complexity, and are then going to start reusing some of the existing flash missions.
The plan is to have around 150-200 hours of campaign gameplay during 2015 as we release the new expansions.
We have also hired one of the Black Library editors to work with us on the story side, which is super cool and gives another dimension to the narrative.
New game modes
Here is a place where we would love to have your input and feedback!
We plan to add some cool new game modes into the game, but we want to hear ideas from the community as well as feedback. The game modes should give you different ways of playing Space Hulk, but not be so big that they are games in themselves. A desert and not a main course if you know what I mean :-)
So please send us your feedback on the ideas (or even new ideas) on support@fullcontrol.dk or discuss in the Steam forums!
Modes we have on the table (and this is by no means a promise to make any of these)
Survival/Last Stand - wave based mission where you have to defeat wave after wave of enemies very similar to some tower defence games.
Advancement / Rogue like random missions - how far can you get into an endless and random generated Space Hulk with some kind of scoring mechanism to track your progress.
Challenge missions - some very hard single missions that have a certain objective to accomplish, where you will be pitted against some logic puzzles or just plain death traps full of Genestealers.
Ironman difficulty mode - start with a limited number of reinforcements and permadeath will make your squad smaller and smaller over time. You lose when you do not have enough Terminators to fulfill the minimum deployment number.
** Your idea here **
For Ascension the plan is still to stick with single player only, so unfortunately that rules out any coop or versus multiplayer modes.
More weapon options
Possibly chapter specific, but we really really want the plasma cannon to get into the game. It’s the last major weapon option that we are missing, and the overpowered feeling it would give can bring a smile on our face just thinking about it.
Also we will work on making variations of weapons to give more choices, where the 3d model is the same, but the weapon stats differ slightly. An example could be a heavy flamer with more fuel but that only has 1 fire pattern. Or a bolter with less heat generation but also less accuracy.
More customization options
We plan to get you some more unit customization options, primarily focussing on adding helmet variations. Right now the choices are enough for a squad, but not much more. So thats one of the things we will look into spending some time on.
Chapter texture packs
We are looking into adding skin packs to some of the chapters in the game, so that you can choose e.g. a Blood Angels successor skin. The individual chapters would not make sense in themselves to add as a full chapter with a campaign, but it can give some love to less played/known chapters.
Similar to above, we have some good ideas of what to do already, and they will be revealed as we have them produced and can make nice screenshots for you.
The plan naturally also includes taking in any bug reports and constantly looking at balancing the game for more enjoyment. It will never get perfect - especially melee being what it is in a Space Hulk game - but that doesn't mean we can't tweak things based on your input!
Space Hulk
We get a lot of requests for adding the Ascension chapters into Space Hulk, something we would love to do but is not as easy as it sounds.
The reasons are primarily, that SHA is PC only and we have taken advantage of that in creating customizable terminators that are very hard/impossible to get running on the tablet version.
This creates a lot of additional code tasks to filter multiplayer games when running cross platform based on not only DLC availability, but now also filtering on platform. Also all animations have been redone in SHA, and the models would need to work with the old ones as well.
But we will look into this as an option anyways in 2015, and do some tests to judge the viability of doing so. No promises, but it’s on the radar!!!
SH on previous gen consoles and handhelds
What we do have though is, that we together with Hoplite Research are porting Space Hulk to some of the previous generation consoles and handhelds.
Specifically this means PS3, PS Vita and the Wii U.
Hoplite is doing the practical porting efforts, and we look very much forward to get Space Hulk out on other platforms.
Looking into universal build for iOS
We also will do some tests to make the iPad version into a universal build running on iPhones. This requires some UI work that might make it impossible practical, but we will try and especially now with the larger screen space on the iPhone 6 and 6 plus it might suddenly make sense..
Thats it for now. I hope that gives some ideas on what is brewing at the FC offices.
Best
