I would. Absolutely. Get it painted up though. It's a scientific fact that unpainted models die quicker than painted one's.

I would take it personally, maybe to take the base off though, since the official version isn't supposed to have one.

Actually the base gives it roughly the same area of the Soul Grinder body, meaning it could count as even easier, since you can't really claim it's too small at that point.

Personally, I think it looks a bit small for a soul grinder. But I'd have to see it next to a regular sized one.

I think it looks more like a forgefiend. But to each their own. Nice conversion either way

Who cares if it's a bit smaller? That makes it harder to get into assault with my squishy guardsmen before it gets gunned down by my heavy weapons lol. I'd happily play against it. Rule of cool trumps all. And tell anyone who bitches about size to take a hike. Many official gw clubcounts as projects in WD haven't been the same size as what they were run as.

It looks cool, but, being a good deal smaller than the real model, I'd probably say no. Size does matter, and a proper "counts as" needs to keep around the same dimensions.

I wouldn’t have a problem with it. Seeing it next to the actual one, it is a fair bit smaller. You might want to make it a scenic base to bulk it up it’s table presence.

It works better as a mauler/forgefiend, but I wouldn't care. I have measured to see, the midsize do oval sideways will fit a soul grinder crablegs just barely

I'd let it slide because it's badass. I think I'd only have an issue if you frequently hid it behind cover that a regular Soul Grinder wouldn't fit behind. Which, considering the usual role of that unit in games, I don't think you would be very likely to do anyway. It being smaller isn't necessarily pure advantage either; it's easier to hide behind cover but it's also a little easier to get around to the side/rear armor.

And again, rule of cool. All quibbling about rules aside you did a fantastic job.

I'd play against it, but to remove any complaints, build a base of rubble/warp fire/broken elder bits to make the rough outside dimensions, then pile them up to make it become comparable to the height of a soulgrinder.

I play a lot of converted/counts as models, go the extra distance to faithfully recreate the footprint and silhouette of the model and even your most die hard players will be happy to play against it. Of course "that guy" will always have problems with whatever. I have my Tzeentch soulgrinders made out of Pegasus Wizard towers hovering over a pillar of fire, nobody has a problem with those, but they also match the dimensions of the real thing.

As always rule of cool is great, but it doesn't hurt to go the extra distance to get it right.

Out of interest, how big a deal is this? For instance I still have an original metal bloodthirster. I've put him on a 60mm base so that at least is correct, but he's still tiny compared to the current model - barely bigger than a terminator...

It’s one of those things that is entirely dependent on your opponents. There are some shenanigans to be had with modeling for advantage. Most people won’t have a problem with old stuff, rule of cool things, etc. But some will. Most issues are actually balanced. I play my old terminators on the small bases they came on. It lets me deepstrike into tighter places, due to a smaller footprint. It also lets plasma cannons hit the whole squad with one shot. Do these balance out? Size can mater for LOS issues and how many guys can fit into base to base. There are pros/cons to both.

In general it’s better to stick to the size of the official model to cut off arguments. But as this thread shows, there are a lot of people willing to cut you some slack for a cool idea.
