I actually bought one when it first came out that only had a single bubble in the venting on the jump pack. The rest of the model was perfectly fine. It's long since sold though.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Poor Abaddon. Is there any character in the setting more desperately in need of some good fluff to restore his rep?

(Except for Mortarion, aka 'Insert Generic Traitor Primarch Here'.)

Abaddon may be beyond redemption. Even ADB, in the Night Lords trilogy, has his lead character refer to those who join the Black Legion as "wearing the black of your many failures." Once the Failbaddon meme makes it in-universe there's no hope for the guy.

The Black Legion Supplement had pretty good fluff for him, not to mention when they swapped the Crusades from the generic "Destroy all Imperium" all the time to Abbadon's various plans over the millennia for good supplies and weakening of the Imperium in preparation for one powerful push into real space.

Also the Night Lords don't really respect anyone, so it's not like that's new.

True dat. The Black Legion codex is a damn fine piece of fluff, on par with the best stories ever produced for 40k. And rumor has it, ADB himself was behind it.

However, I also enjoyed the nods to the Failbaddon meme in the Night Lords trilogy, both for the bit of community acknowledgement and for adding a new layer of depth to Chaos Space Marine politics, hinting that Abaddon is a divisive figure despite his charisma and the favor of the gods. In headcanon, I've come to reconcile both views of the character: Abaddon has, in some ways, made the Eye of Terror his home. He's learnt to master the subtle rules of this surreal nightmare universe and to conquer it to do his bidding. In the immaterial near-reality of the Eye, Abaddon is a demigod, a hero of myth who stands defiant amongst gods and demons of immense wisdom and power. However in the mundane matters of war, far from the Eye, he's but the mediocre lieutenant he was during the Heresy, Horus' sycophant and henchman. Abaddon owes his success (and the success of the 13th Black Crusade) to his better than average understanding of the twisted logic of Chaos, his charisma and the mythical aura that surrounds him, but is far from being the most accomplished commander in the ranks of Chaos.

War does not determine who is right - only who is left.

Am I the only one who superglued my metal abaddon together and never had his arm break off? I didn't even pin it. However, I'd still like to see a new sculpt for him (and many other characters) since his current model is hilariously undersized for the modern range.

I did pin the sword on and the model has held together real well. Other people's problems are legit, tho, I have seen a lot of Abaddon models with alternate swords because the original feel off and got lost.
