The Last Chancer Who Survived

I, like many players, have a model of Abaddon. And like 90% of Abby models, his sword arm never stays on. And like many Abaddon models, he has been nothing but a blight upon my army since purchase, with epic fails like loosing 500+ points of terminator bodyguard plus himself to a single unit of burna boyz, gimping himself on turn 3 by trying to give Lysander a handshake, being mauled by a lone zombie in a zombie-survival mission. On the first zombie.
It's also a failcast model. Triple points to Tzeentch.
These are his credentials.
It comes as no surprise, therefore, to learn that I keep him on a shelf. Where he has stayed above my ~6' eye line, out of sight, on a disused cardboard box with a slightly curved lid, for the past few months. He stands, based, painted and one-armed, facing forwards, towards the back of the shelf. Behind the top of the curved lid of his box/pedestal-of-fail. Just in front of his base is his would-be severed limb-and-sword. I say "is". I really mean "Is once more", as his shelf stay can now once again be measured in minutes. Because, for some miraculous reason or another he managed to do the following:
1) Fall UP over the curvature of the lid
2) Bypass his arm, which upon inspection had not moved
3) Fall forwards and down, landing roughly 3" forwards of the shelf
4) Turn over so that he lies on his back.
5) Land with a sufficiently loud thump-noise on carpeted floor to be heard over my headphone's music.
Never before have I truly understood the extent of the fail Abaddon holds. And OMFG.

Poor Abaddon. Is there any character in the setting more desperately in need of some good fluff to restore his rep?
(Except for Mortarion, aka 'Insert Generic Traitor Primarch Here'.)
Abaddon may be beyond redemption. Even ADB, in the Night Lords trilogy, has his lead character refer to those who join the Black Legion as "wearing the black of your many failures." Once the Failbaddon meme makes it in-universe there's no hope for the guy.

The Black Legion Supplement had pretty good fluff for him, not to mention when they swapped the Crusades from the generic "Destroy all Imperium" all the time to Abbadon's various plans over the millennia for good supplies and weakening of the Imperium in preparation for one powerful push into real space.
Also the Night Lords don't really respect anyone, so it's not like that's new.

You think the arm issue is bath with finecast? Imagine what its like with the original, heavier metal model.
As for falling up off the shelf, he probably got caught by an errant gust of wind, finecast is so damn light.

By this type of glue. I don't normally advertise anything but I've never had a glue work as well as Army painter super glue.
Have problems with FW resin? This stuff will stick to FW resin even with the silky greasy stuff on it
Have problems with magnets? This stuff fuses the magnet to the plastics/resin
Example, I like my turrets to traverse back and forth, I usually modify it by placing a a magnet to the hull and one under the turret. On this occasion I placed the magnet just off center. In a matter of seconds. Not 15 to 45 seconds. I'm talking 2 sec max. The magnet was fused to the resin of my sicaran.
I used my GW clipping tool to try to pry the magnet off and I actually broke the friggen magnet in half. The other half was still stuck to the resin.
I $hit you not.
Of course with everything that is good, there is also a little bad to it.
Army painter glue is a little runny. Control of the amount of glue you need is something you need to think about. Due to its runniness it has on occasion glued my fingers to resin, themselves.

You should wash the sticky stuff off with soapy water before you do any gluing or suchlike.

You're right, you should because it makes paint chip off if you don't. But what I mean is. This $hit is so good that you can glue them together with the greasy stuff on. It's that good

I haven't experienced that yet tbh. But it could be a possibility. I try and get plastic models whenever I can as I prefer plastic glue, solves a lot of issues.

Was the metal model really that bad?
A friend has the Azrael model and no matter how much glue, any time the model falls over the flag falls off. Abaddon similar?

I know that metal was much worse. Funny thing is, though, the only finecast model I've ever had problems with (aside from tags and non-stick paint) is my abby model. Automatically Appended Next Post: Johnnytorrance wrote:What is and how do you play a zombie mission?

By zombie mission I usually end up referring to a house-rule system whereby zombie models spawn indefinitely, and you score points per kill/turn survived.
But that works too.

My friend's old metal Abaddon model, by the time I got him to stay together, was about 10% pewter and 90% pins.
Edit: also let's be fair. In 2nd edition Abaddon was an almighty terror on the battlefield, especially if you were a tool and gave him a conversion field AND a displacer field. We quickly outlawed those shenanigans.

Have any of you tried drilling tiny holes into Abaddon's pieces and pinning them with a tiny bit of paper clip? For many metal models, this is very important, and pretty basic modeling must do sometimes. My Abaddon has NEVER fallen apart, and of course if he dropped off a table he'd break like anything. But use Loctite brand super glue with the pins. My Bloodthirster and Lord of Change have also never fallen apart (the old Bloodthirsters are WAAAAY more often falling apart than Abaddon.)
As for his fluff and reputation, a Wolf Lord beat the crap out of him yesterday, and thus was shamed once more....but I blame Drach'nyen for that failure!

I never had a problem with my old metal Abaddon staying together. Though way back when I got him I probably pinned his arm. It's been a long time since the model got messed with, though, as I converted a totally unique-to-me Abaddon using one of the larger metal Obliterator bodies as a base. Towers over the old model.
And as it's been said before, Abaddon was a true and unholy terror in 2nd edition, even without any crazy wargear than his own unique stuff.

Am I the only one who superglued my metal abaddon together and never had his arm break off? I didn't even pin it. However, I'd still like to see a new sculpt for him (and many other characters) since his current model is hilariously undersized for the modern range.

I have Abadabbadon - got him when he first came out - but he has never snatched defeat from the jaws of victory with his black legion buddies.
This weak wristed devil was first converted as a SW Wolf Priest. and a fine warrior he was. Wielding a heavy metal warhammer and some clumsily hacked apart metal and plastic bitz as an uber Storm Bolter. This grizzled veteran never once dropped his weapons because they were too heavy.
3rd edition 40K saw a change back to chaos. Becoming a Khorne marked lord. Drach'nyen came back with the majority of a paper clip holding it in place - needed because of the heavy conversion with green stuff. Though he had issues with balance due to the appalling conversion work on the blade not a piece flew off despite the amount of losses this guy took.
I did buy a fail cast Abby - as i was on a nostaligia kick and wanted to see what FC was like. part painted. His talon of horus - however - is missing
