Spam Thousand Sons. THey don't care about his special killguns or death lasers. They just care that they have bolters and doombolts and every drone their firestorm kills inflicts another D3 hits on the 'tides.

Of course, the real stinger is that all they're doing is buying time (and providing warp charges) for the Chaos Sorcerers with telepathy to get into range and unleash a barrage of Psychic Shrieks. Sprinkle with some Ahriman for a first turn infiltrate.

Ouch! My buddy and I play a lot of apocalypse games and he brings 6 riptides all the time. 4 normal and two Ravarna. After a ton of defeats I used a completely different strategy.

I got lots of grav gun bikers - I play white scars - and smashed his face in. Added to this I put in a squad of centurions with grav cannons and an Imperial knight.

This took out all his riptides pretty much in two turns. His face was a picture.

For CSM I would go with an imperial knight or two. They really smash riptides to pieces in assualt with D weapon attacks. Although that was in 6th so not sure how close combat D weapons fare now.

Since he's your friend, why not just beat him up or take his models?

You can do things like that with your homies.

If you don't want to do that, try asking him to just not use 6 riptides, maybe just use one or two. Playing with close friends is the only time where I would condone going out of your way to make the other player's experience more enjoyable. Whether riptides are OP or not isn't the point. If you're enjoyment level of the game is being reduced because he crushes you every game, then he as your friend should feel inclined to tone down his list.

There is no "kinda" being a dick.

He is or he is not.

If he is, get a new friend. Don't play him. Life is too short to waste it on playing with dicks.

Talk to him. Maybe ask him why he feels the need to act like a dick. Tell him that you will not play him whilst he continues to do so. He changes or you get a new gaming opponent are generally how it works out - and it may take some time for the second option to show itself. If you are a "gamer" then you can wait.

(so many gamers these days play only because they have friends who play. When their friends stop, so do they. If you want to continue playing afterwards, you were in it for more than just the social compact part of it)

Take one of the Forgeworld Daemon Lords. An'ggrath is probably the best for the job.

Mine has been known to kill three riptides and two hammer heads in one game. But that was at the end of 6th edition.

I'd rather not buy a chaos reaver titan, I'll tell you that much.

Attack morale. So sorcerers who can cast Terrify would be good., Escort Rhinos for deep Striking assault units would be good. I use 3 mutilators and 3 Obliterators to bring fun raining down. now their 200 point unit BETTER fire at the 70 point unit. But by doing so you buy time for the rest fo the force.

Also: Don't be there when the punch lands. Good advice for any fighter.

Now one other point I would make. Troops can take objectives from riptides. So a lot of small troops in Rhinos that come on late is annoying because his next rounds are primarily used just to get through the shells. That takes up time. Valuable time. If he doesnt venture out to objectives he might bea victim of his own cowardice. An Aegis Defense line will help keep reserves off and coming when you want. speed is a weapon. use it with scoring units and lots of them.

If you're not ABOVE using allies, you can take Disruption Weapons.

Truly though, attack his morale in as many ways as you can.

Riptides are really quite good, but 6? Sounds like a guy who knows he has no choice BUT to do that if he wants to compete. So take some joy in the fact that he isn't likely to be a very good General.

eh.. I think that spam is a player thing. Not a game thing.

I am reasonably confident that a 6 Riptide list will do well for a bit and then the opponent, if hes adaptable, will learn to annihilate that list and make him sorry he spent the money. It'll always have him "in the game" but I kinda doubt he's any good.

Both are responsible. Him for doing it and GW for letting him. But neither cares since he is winning and GW got its money.

There you go ten easy steps for dealing with your friends being dicks at little space men.

Simple, Just get an army or stuff that is "really" good at deep striking or drop podding in and drop your entire army right behind his riptides and Open Fire on their asses. Then after he is focusing his entire army's firepower to wipe you off the entire map. You will had an entire turn to zoom in with a vehicle or run up and get into assault range and wipe the riptides off the map.

Make entire unites in your army's sole purpose is to kill ripetides, fire shots that are destructor, ignores cover and will negate their base saves and force them into whatever invuln they might have.

If you already talked to him and he insists on this attitude, don't play him anymore and look for other people to play with.

Riptides are vulnerable to Ld tests, just got worse in CC due to smash nerf, and shouldn't be able to stop any kind of Psychic offense. Bikes that are spread out excessivelly could/should or a decent psychic ally or two.
