Master of Sanctity by Gav Thorpe shows plenty of moral ambiguity for the Dark Angels and the dynamic between Asmodai and Sapphon shows a great deal of conflict caused by wildly differing personalities. Ideally, reading all of the Dark Angels novels written by Gav would be best as they are all well crafted stories with interesting characters.

I thought Ravenwing was boring. Master of Sanctity was good- kinda says a lot about Asmodai's general state of mind too!!. Gav Thorpe tends to be very hit and miss for my tastes.

I kinda wish they'd write more "regular" scifi using the 40k universe. We see all the battles on the tabletop, it'd be cool to have novellas covering an Arbites judge or a Marine's transformation or political intrigue among the Eldar.

The Eisenhorn and Ravenor trilogies are basically detective novels in 40k. Fighting, but not battles.

Then there is the Sons of Dorn book which basically chronicles a group of IF initiates from when they were human all the way till they receive the Black Carapace.

The first Space Wolf book also has Ragnar from when he was still a human teen all the way through his initiation and transformation.

I do want to check out Eisenhorn. Inquisitors seem like the best choice for good scifi.

What made Ravenwing boring?

I want to know about the lives of the ordinary Imperial citizens.

The people who aren't in the Imperial Guard, the people to whom Space Marines exist only in myth and legend, the people who are told to love the "Emperor" but have no idea who or what he is.

Just stories about people who live in the shadow of the Imperium trying their best to survive in a galaxy that views them as expendable at best.

Read Dan Abnett's Titanicus. There are about eight story lines in that book, and only one of them is about titans.
