If you want to just take 1 troops choice is the only reason to take an Allied Detachment. But yes they are largely obsolete compared to just taking more CADs.

Sure there is, if you want to take a secondary Faction but don't want to take two Troops.

Perhaps we'd have less confusion if they would just remove the Allied Detachment
