The land of cotton.

Dust Tactics sounds like it fits the bill pretty well. Grid based map folds up flat, terrain is card squares for said grid, the whole thing stores in the box it comes in.

As a plus it's simple enough to teach others, and the pseudo board game mechanics works well for teaching non-gamers.

Lots of intersting suggestions here.

If you want to dabble in fantasy, my favorite game (in any genre) is Song of Blades and Heroes. It's an $8 rulebook, with $8 supplements, that is as cheap or expensive as you want it to be depending on where you buy the 8-15 miniatures to make up your warband. An entire warband will usually fit in a pistol case, so space is very much not an issue.

Very good suggestion for fantasy! Also make sure to look at the inspiring SoBH reports in this forum! You can also do SoBH in 15mm since the scale distance is pretty small anyway. (Really, most games look better in 15mm anyway and not so crowded, but you can always just cut 28mm scale distance in half or use cm instead of inches). Two Hour Wargames' Warrior Heroes: Legends is also a very good fantasy option.

That's a highly relative concept tbh. X-Wing is extremely popular but I can't get anyone to even try it here, they're so set in the gw mindset. In fact they won't even look at anything non40k for the most part.

I second Dust or X-Wing tbh. As far as "replacement 40k" goes?Still looking myself. Have a decent sized steel legion army I'm trying to find a good ruleset to adopt to.

Most of the people who like to play Star Wars are the fanatics. Try to contact them in your area.

One in the same with the 40k crowd here. Just goes to show it's all relative.
