Pffft ostrich. Just get a emu. Theyre big, theyre cranky, they give everything the evil eye. Very hard to ride though. They could be a kiwis big brother.
Good luck hitting anything with that lance the way they jiggle about.

For a praetorian, maybe a giant duck billed, 4 footed, poison clawed, furry lizard of some sort

I personally found emus to be rather ugly in person haha. I once saw a mutant one at the local emu farm (yes, there is actually an emu farm somewhere around here...) and it weird growths from its face. That image is burned in my brain when I think about emus.
