Competitive wise. how well does just mass spam crisis suit work?

Id figure (especially with far site codex) they would do well. (bunch of multi wound auto/plas/melta spam with decent mobility)

(not focusing on bombs)

Well the FoTM aspect of Tau has faded... people will sell their armies so that they can buy new ones.

It was never flavour of the month, it was flavour of the edition. The only other thing is that later it shared it (in more ways than one) with Eldar after they came out with a new book, though the Eldar still are practically flavour of the edition now.

So FoTM is a god awful phrase and a gak excuse for GW's worst bouts of rules writing.

One of their common easy mode net lists got nerfed hard, as such all the people who only play the flavor of the month are selling their flavor of the month army.

Why is this surprising?

I find Tau to be quite good in my local meta, but that's because the guy who plays it insists on playing anything but Maelstrom

Personally I think Maelstrom is the main thing that killed Tau as they are not very mobile, especially after losing Buffmander/Shadowsun Riptide combos and Eldar Battle Brothers.

Personally if I were going to do a Tau army, it'd be a fairly realistic Hunter Cadre: Couple of squads of FW in Devilfish, some Crisis Suits, maybe some Pathfinders or Stealth Suits, a Hammerhead/Skyray, and maybe a single Riptide. No Farsight nonsense, no Riptide spam, no Buffmander (a true commander leads from the vanguard!) but a solid and fluffy mobile Tau army designed to execute a Mont'ka on a critical objective.

No idea if such a thing would be viable though.

most of the tau player were flavour of the month OMG i have to buy the most OP thing players I think.

so now that eldar is the OMG OP codex they moved on to that codex, or sold tau in frustration.

all the players I knew who have tau armies cause they like tau kept them,

most just started it cause they were top of the heap for a bit, and they wanted to win.

now that their powerlevel has come down in comparison, powergamers or wanna be powergamers have moved on

quite like how you had lots of sell offs of GK right after the change from 5th to 6th

I'm glad that I've found other people with this view as my two opponents (CSM and GK) still claim that Tau are 'nooby' and still OP, and I'm the only one who pushes for tactical objectives, the GK hates objectives and the CSM doesn't really care.

When I comes to Competitive Play (I read you Zagman ) I have a friend who has over 16,000 points of Tau and has done very well at tournaments with it. It is a Fish of Fury list that usually entails the following:

-x4-x5 Devilfish with minimum sized Fire Warrior Squads with EMP Grenades, Disruption Pods on Devilfish
-x3 Skyray and Hammerhead in various combos, Disruption Pods on all
-x9-x12 Piranhas with pure Burst Cannons
-Fireblade, he NEVER takes an Ethereal
-Never takes a Riptide as he is not a fan of them and feels there are better choices
-Stealth Suits with Fusion

When playing against this list I honestly have just as a tough time, if not more dealing with it then the usual Riptide spam as with a 3+ jink to all his important vehicles it really makes it difficult to bring down, especially with the buff to vehicles in this edition. The Piranhas speed and firepower make them very useful for Malestrom missions as well as getting in your face turn one as well as screening the rest of his army, and for anti-tank he has Stealth Suits, Skyrays and Hammerheads who do a great job at bringing down Heavy Armor and fliers, the only thing this army doesn't have a lot of are markerlights but he does take a few here and there, especially when he fields Tetras. I think now in this edition the "Fish of Fury" list has the potential to be as if not MORE competitive then the Riptide/Crisis Suit spam.

19th Krieg Siege Army 7500pts.
40k/HH Night Lords 5000pts.
Orks Waaaghmacht Spearhead 2500pts.
