The sadest part about the speeder, is that there are the driver, gunner and 4 passengers.
Not quite enough for a squad.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

always charge in with the shotguns. done. Shotguns and powerfist is a GREAt combo for Scouts.

I have been finding a Lighting Claws is a better choice, al it takes is one guy with a Power Weapon to ruin your day not letting you even getting a swing off with your Power Fist.

the fist is mostly for popping vehicles. the shotguns are mostly for whittling the enemy unit to a managable size. You're not taking on most units with Scouts but you might FINISH a unit using them.

My LSS is an autoinclude now, I do keep thinking of adding a second as well.

Heavy flamer on the storm, combi flamer sgt then 4 shotguns.

It's a lovely unit to take down hordes or irritate MEQs and once a blob has felt the heavy flamer then flamer then 8 shotguns they will waste everything nearby to kill it while my actual troops move up the table.

I would also think it would be a useful unit to tarpit something like a riptide.

Riptides get 2 attacks at WS2. I've tied them up with a minimal battle sister squad on multiple occasions. The only thing the scouts are lacking is the 6++, but they have the added advantage of not being vulnerable to being swept after one unlucky morale roll and a delivery mechanism that will get them there faster.

RG gives you stealth the first turn, which helps if you need to jink to avoid giving up first blood. You already scout, so don’t get the other advantages. Not worth it over the others IMHO.

Do i miss something or rg are now allowed to get +1 cover on all the models? Cause iirc it's written in codex that only non-vehicle models without bulky.

You are probably right. I posted that when still on my first cup of coffee, so accuracy might be a bit off...

As it's written, the Raven Guard CT conveys scout and the Turn 1 stealth to all MODELS except for those with the bulky or very bulky special rule. Fairly certain it included vehicles? I could be wrong however

On a side note: Bolter Scouts would also work fairly well with the Raptor tactics as the Storm would get them into a better position to fire their Heavy 1 Rending shots.

Yes, so are broadsides, crisis suits, stealth suits, hazzad suits and various battlsuit commanders.

Uh...No. Tau are not immune to blind. Im not sure what hes talking about. Blacksun filters only give you Night Vision. they don't ignore the Blind Rule.

I'm afraid they do. In the grim darkness of far future there are only usr that are irrelevant cause everyone important ignores them.

However, if you manage to kill at least some markers with your heavy flamer and scouts, consider their job done and points well spent.

Because it seems like if you can insert your scouts into their markerlights then blind things with the speeder...

Heck, I think that principle may be generally applicable against any army with low init non-vehicle models. I might see how fast I can paint one and maybe get a couple if works decently.

That was true in the old codex.
Now however, BSF grants night vision and blind immunity, as stated in every single description of the BSF.

One of the things I have done a few times was just take one squad.
>Veteran Sargent: Shotgun Lighting Claw
>4x Scouts with Bolt Pistol & CCW
>4x Scouts with Sniper Rifles (or Bolt Guns with Imperial Fist)
>1x Scout with Heavy Bolter.
>Land Speeder Storm
Combat Squad them placing the Sniper Scouts on a Objectives on my Side of the Field and sending out the Close Combat Scouts in the Storm.

I had actuality though of filling all 6 Troops Slots this way, but I need 2 more Speeders to try this. [I use normal Land Speeders to Playtest things like this as I only have 1 Land Speeder Storm.]

You're actually better off with 2 separate squads and not combat squad. This way you're getting a free bs/ws 4 sarge.

True, but it has been working for me.

I'm pretty sure page 69 of the tau codex says "immune to the effects of the Blind special rule."

Page 68 actually. Support Systems only. Not on Vehicles. I never caught that distinction.

Weird that they would be different but there it is. I stand corrected, kind of. My eyes just slid right past that special property of the Support systems version (specifically).

My apologies.

Tau have no walkers, and as such no vehicles that can be blinded to begin with-making it redundant to have tank BSF to grant blind immunity, and just cause people to think that maybe its normally possible to blind tanks.

BACK TO SCOUTS

Anpu42-this may very well work for you, but changing that 1 big combat-squadded team into 2 minimal teams changes nothing except promoting one of the sniper team to a BS4 Sargent (and unlocking more optional upgrade choices you may or may not want to get). there is quite literally no reason not to.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.
