I also don't see the insistence that Orks are a low-end faction

The 7E Ork codex is solid and playable, but Orks don't do anything better than anyone else. There are better assault armies, better shootier armies, better Mechanized forces, better psychics, etc... About the only thing Orks have over any other faction is the ability to scratch build models for them.

What armies are better in assaults than Orks? Orks wreck anything and everything don't they?

Chaos Daemon (arguably the best assault faction)

AI & BFG: / BMG: Mr. Freeze, Deathstroke / Battletech: SR, OWA / Fallout Factions: BoS / HGB: Caprice / Malifaux: Arcanists, Guild, Outcasts / MCP: Mutants / SAGA: Ordensstaat / SW Legion: CIS / WWX: Union

Voted Astra Militarum for a chance for them to get nerfed instead of my own army.

Orks get lots of attacks, but at low initiative, with no AP, and T shrit saves to keep them alive long enough to get their attacks in. The only reason orks do well at all is sheer numbers.

Ork Charge !!
All the Orks in base to base get murdered.
The rest of the orks pile in, and hopefully overwhelm.

And the reason Orks are considered assault armies to begin with is BS2.

They're a horde assault army, like Nids. They rely on numbers and a few elite models to win.

Daemons are a more elite assault army, where their individual models have much more killing potential, but losses hurt more (however, if they make it to assault, they'll kick arse).

BA fit somewhere in between, but in part due to their old ruleset, they can't deal with either style very efficiently.
