I think it's safe to say that Graham McNeil would've been one of those 4-5 authors, meaning Fulgrim's arc would not have changed.

So essentially, they've retconned it several times, but as it stands, the daemon takes over Fulgrim's body after he lops of Ferrus' head, then the daemon gets his ass kicked out of Fulgrim by Dorian Gray, I mean Painting-Fulgrim, who then goes full troll mode on his own Emperor's Children.
