I have tried using various garage items but they are all to unwieldy or covered in oil. I need something curved and flat.
I'm not sure in what way the items are unwieldy - heads? handles? - but the former can be surprisingly easy to modify. I once used plain needle files and a bit of fine sandpaper to grind down my first
GW sculpting tool, a thing at least as chunky as a screwdriver or a nail. Granted, it took an hour or three, but I managed to shape, smooth and sharpen it to a degree that I still use it today. Not that I'm saying going obsessive on a lump of steel is the best solution, but it's a stopgap suggestion, until the hobby budget is opened up again.
