Yeah before the new ruling the NX was crazy good. It was indestructible in era pure games, unless the Romulans were packing cloaked mines . Now, post ruling, I think it is more thematic this way, it's good but shows that the hull on that old of a ship can't take continuous stress.

I just noticed that one of my favorite upgrades, Romulan Polarized Hull Plating, is unaffected by the new ruling. It says "When your ship is hit, convert 1 (crit) to 1 (hit)". It doesn't have the word "may" so it's not optional, but a continuous effect. For once it's nice to be a Romulan

I dunno about that. The 'may' might just mean you get to choose when. At this point you might be in the situation that you have to convert the first and only the first crit you receive in a round.

Life has gotten complicated.

The 'each time' seems the important part, not the 'may.'

The rules team says the word "may" is what makes it optional, there is a choice when to use an upgrade with that word. The Polarized Hull Plating does not have the word "may" so there is no option, you have to convert that crit to a hit. Just like Tom Paris it would happen every time.

Its a bit concerning that 'may' has been seized on as some kind of key word. I wish the new rules guys hadn't used that phraseology. It's really changed the fundamental play of the game.

I really support these changes, but they are a bit too sweeping, a bit too game changing. Like maybe it's time for Rulebook 1.1, or, with the 'may' ruling, maybe 2.0?

It actually isn't too difficult. I played 3 games this weekend, one of them at 300 points, and we never had a problem with the new rulings getting in the way. Most of the things that are affected are passive buffs to multiple attacks like Boheeka w/Breen ED. Stuff like Paris and Sulu are unaffected.

Of course it will ruin the day of anyone who was dependent on using Varel multiple times a turn, but that is as it should be
