If you want to commit to a cheapish, fast and maneuverable tank hunter, invest in a 100pt. Taurox Prime armed with Taurox Missile Launcher and tl-Autocannon.

A lot cheaper pointswise, range is not a concern at all, and 4 high strength shots at BS4 (of which 2 are twin-linked) as opposed to the Devil Dog's 2 at BS3 of which one also might scatter, though admittedly you got the AP advantage. Of course, you have -1AV to front and sides in the case of the Taurox Prime as well, but at the end of the day you inflict more HPs and 7th ed is all about bringing vehicles down via HP damage.

The problem with the vanquisher (FW or codex) is that the 7th edition damage table is so hard on single-shot weapons. You only destroy a target on a 6 with a vanquisher shot, so most of the time you're just taking off a single hull point like with any other weapon. And you've spent 150-200 points to take off that single hull point, which is not a very good deal. You really don't want a 150-200 point unit that slowly grinds down a single target's HP over an entire 5-7 turn game. What you want is a high volume of fire from efficient guns that pay as little as possible per HP stripped, so that you can kill a target in a single round of fire even without the damage table. Or D-weapons, of course.

Your argument may sound convincing when put that way, but remember that the Vanquisher usually combines its primary weapon with a hull mounted lascannon and possibly even 2 sponson mounted multi-meltas if it is in a pask squadron where long range isnt needed anyway. Something that the regular LRBT or Demolisher cant do without mere snapshots. At 58.33% chance of hitting, all 4 weapons combined do have the potential to seriously cripple any tank that takes a broadside from this vehicle, and you pay those points primarily for being a tough nut to crack (14/13/10) compared to most other AT-tanks of this range (13/11/10 in the case of the predator annihilator, 13/12/10 in the case of the hammerhead etc.)

GW is scared of girls. Why do you think they have so much trouble sculpting attractive female models? Because girls have cooties and the staff at GW don't like looking at them for too long because it makes them feel funny in their naughty place.
