Yeah I'm mostly referring to American Christianity, it has been polluting us here in Canada as well.
Wow. Bigot much?
Fraz, I think I actually agree with him that things like "young earth creationists" and some of the idiots in DC are a pollution in the US.... I mean, when you get statements regarding rape such as (paraphrasing) "a woman cannot get pregnant from a rape, because her body knows what's going on, and shuts down those parts" or, when politicians say something to the effect of "I don't believe in global warming, because it isn't written in the Bible"
It slows and even halts necessary government action in far too many cases.
I mean, believing that sort of stuff is one thing.... Using it as your political base and using it to halt or slow law creation is a whole other thing

Don't forget how stem-cell research was cut off from government funding during the 8 years that Larry the Cable Guy was president. -

I work in Virginia (don't live there, but work there). Their now-discgraced and imprisoned former Governor, along with the legislature, was trying to push state-mandated rape. State. Mandated. Rape. And of the most heinous and perverse kind, where neither the rapist nor obviously the rape victim wants it to occur. Pro-Life run amok. I will never forget that these are the tactics the religious right would gladly employ in their quest to outlaw abortion.

I'm a bit in the bag, so I watched this. This video is an absolute disgrace, and the producers should be ashamed of themselves.
Logically, the error is made immediately. This guy starts with the prmise that the Bible is literally true and infallible, and bends everything to meet that premise. That's not what I care about. That is predictable.
What is disgraceful is how he presents Nye. He is literally shown as a Borg, and every clip of Nye speaking is presented at super-speed so that the viewer can't hear what he actually says, and so he also sounds like a chipmunk.
There is so much insecurity and fear of death in this video, its pouring off my computer screen onto my desk, congealing, and ruining my models.
Horrible, I am now angry.

"The perpetrator invaded the body of a person by conduct resulting in penetration, however slight, of any part of the body of the victim or of the perpetrator with a sexual organ, or of the anal or genital opening of the victim with any object or any other part of the body."
"The penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or object, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person, without the consent of the victim."
So yes, forcing a woman to go through a medically unnecessary transvaginal ultrasound without her consent could be construed as "rape" by both the international law enforcement and the United States definitions.

OK. I didn't have an agenda or an argument in mind when I asked. I was merely asking for clarification. And I think those definitions are better than the ones presented by the various dictionaries that all use the words "sexual intercourse".
As an aside, I would have noticed the pertinent part without the colours. But I agree with the sentiment of being safe rather than sorry

though tumblr believes you can rape a woman by looking at her... not joking...
But back on topic I am disgusted by creationists and super right wing Christians (I mean yeah it's not helped I loathe them because I'm a part of the GLBT thing but...they're horrible people).
If someone doesn't want to believe in science and reason that's fine, but don't try and spread your insanity outside your own circles.
Canada isn't the best place for them, I mean 23% of the country is non religious.
We value our multiculturalism thing too much to cater to people like that like the US does... I donno maybe Alberta might, but nobody likes Alberta.

Canada has provinces most other provinces dislike...generally seems to boil down to Ontario, Alberta and Quebec lol Sometimes it's because of hockey. Only team I hate is Toronto...though the rule of Canada means I always cheer for a Canadian team over an American one.
Alberta or not, it's still my country, pettiness aside.

, that the one I grew up in didn't have a monopoly on belief like I had been implicitly taught.
To be fair, damn near every religion and religious meeting group (the local church, synagogue, mosque, etc) has a tendency to do this.... I remember the church I grew up in making snide comments about "those baptists down the road"
It always did seem to be a bit of a hierarchy though... the church I grew up in, was of course, "the best".... All the other Christian denominations were "second", Jews were, depending on when/who you asked either on par with us, or 3rd. After them came the Mormons in a distant 4th, because after all, they're pretend Christians, but aren't really, so they aren't really all that bad, etc. etc.
as has been said;
"....And if you want to know what's wrong with Judaism, you ask a Christian. If you want to know what's wrong with Christianity, you ask a Muslim. If you want to know what's wrong with Catholicism, or Protestantism, or Calvinism, Hypercalvinism, Neocalvinism, Southern Baptists, the Church of Christ, or the First Baptist Church of Memphis, you can go to the Second Baptist Church of Memphis or any other denomination."
..
And if you want jokes about Unitarians then ask a Unitarian... nobody else knows any.... (Yes, I am one. I never promised that the Unitarian jokes would be funny, mind you....)
The Auld Grump, when a Unitarian pulls out a holy symbol on a vampire, the vampire feels welcome in himself, and goes away to form a discussion group on the matter....
