This is a tough decision for me.
My main army as far as fluff is concerned is my Black Templar. I have come up with names for the squads and multiple stories, and even a custom chapter concept for them: The Confessors.
As far as gameplay goes, it's got to be my Orks. They are more fun to field, and make for a more interesting game. They were also my first army.
So I have two armies, and I like both of them equally. If I start a third army I would consider that one my Alternate army.

My main army is Space Wolves.
The alts are Eldar, Tyranids and soon Dark Angels.

I run DE as my alternate army and am looking to get my Necron army running once they receive their new codex. Have Tyranids as my main. But considering the amount of top-tier lists that Tyranids are now using (why always FlyrantSpam), I'm considering changing DE to main and having Tyranids as my alternate army, at least while they are one of the top dogs. I enjoy being the underdog

I have so many armies they all just become alternate armies. Currently I am swiching back and forth between Space Marines, Tyranids, IG and Tau.

My main army is SM allied with GK's.
My alt army that I love and want to start collecting is either Necrons or 'Nids, their fluff is cool and the models look badass.
