No, he hasn't. He's played against and lost to Tyranids 6 times recently (3 to my bugs and 3 to another person's tyranids), but that is the extent of his experience with them.

I also haven't played with Tau before, at least not since 5th edition when I tried out my friend's Tau for 1 game. I have, however, played against Tau a lot.

not meaning to sound harsh towards the guy but in that case doesn't this just show him that he is not so good at the game at a Competetive level?

I think he already knows where he stands in terms of skill-level compared to the rest of the guys on our team. At least his skill could be improved upon over time....he just needs to play against better competition on a more regular basis.

However, selling his army now is potentially a big mistake. I just wanted to show him that his army is still worth playing competitively. And what better way to do so than by showing its true potential when played with by a skilled player. What better way to do it than by destroying an army that he's had so much trouble against in the past? I don't see this match so much as a confidence-shaker as it is an eye-opener for my opponent.

Fair enough mate. In that case, It would be good to replay this game but swap over the same lists. That tau list is very optimised to play against this sort of nid list (bar the amount of marker lights that may be a little too many)and should with relative ease take down the Nid list.

Well, he's played his list against my nids (which weren't even as strong as this current one) before and still lost 3 times. I'm afraid that swapping armies isn't going to do much difference at this point in time. He'd still probably lose.

I think he's going to need some more seasoning before he can beat my Tyranids. But I've just shown him that his army definitely has the tools to do so.

Flyrants have no answer to Skyrays which for some reason Spam Adams didn't bring when you tested Flyrant spam versus Tau .

Buffmander is the best force multiplier in the game. I think the best way to use him is to maximize the force he multiplies.

Their best answer to the skyray is to stay within Void Shield range for a turn while the skyray blows its load. Catalyst would have helped also had my opponent managed to get it (which he didn't). Without either of these, yeah, the skyray has the potential to knock a flyrant out of the game.

Also, skyray needs to hit with both of its networked markerlights in order to remove cover. That means that there is a 56% chance that it fails to remove the flyrant's cover.

Buffmander is the best force multiplier in the game. I think the best way to use him is to maximize the force he multiplies.

Yeah, he sure is good, but I don't know if I'd call him the best FM in the game. He is a FMU (force-multiplier unit) for the unit he is in. However, the best FMU's in my opinion are ones that buff the entire army. For example, the malanthrope.

In the case of the deathstar, buffing the gundrones makes the unit more killy. However, buffing markerlights benefits the rest of the army as opposed to just the deathstar.

Well it was a fun game, to learn and understand the strengths of my army a lot more. There is hope, there is hope.

Yes there is. All it takes is playing against better competition and doing it more regularly. Then, you'd get better in no time.

That's true - I was just kidding. The first six months I played I only won two games. It was rough.
