In my opinion, proxies should be clear and as close to the miniature in game terms as possible.

I proxied for about 4-5 games three WraithKnight.

Those proxies had a hardboard base of the correct size and were hardboard cutouts around the black and white print of the WK at a 105% scale.

That made it a bit ugly, but obvious, clear, acceptable for LoS and cover, etc.

Lots of people gave me gak about how I was bringing cardboard Knights, but honestly, if you're going to shell 270 euros before you even know whether you want to play the model, go ahead I won't stop you.

What I've hated in the past is CSM count as cultists, I avoided assault range when they were no threat to my tanks all game long, etc.

In general, if a model is clearly something, it can't be a good proxy / count as something else.

One guy played a pod lying flat on the table instead of a Storm plane from the SW, and that was more or less ok.

What I absolutely hate is models that break the aesthetic of the game. I much prefer my cardboard WraithKnights to any historical or non-40K model.

I agree. I'd rather see a cardboard cutout to, say, a transformer or robotic toy any day of the week.

That being said, I play rarely enough that I'd prefer the immersive experience of models to play against. For me, id rather test models by playing against myself, for example, to figure out if it's worthwhile.

I don't need the weapons on a model to be 100% accurate, but I like them to be close.
