On the topic of fighty heroes, I'd say assassins are about the only way to go. Weeping Blade + Potion of Strength is the obvious build, but I also like Blade of Corruption or Ogre Blade, and I keep trying to psych myself up to run Warpstone Stars again. I ran them a lot in 7E, but for whatever reason can't quite convince myself to in 8E, between heavy BS negatives, larger unit sizes, etc. Which I realize isn't necessarily so true anymore in the latter case, given that the meta has shifted to smaller units of MC and single models ...

Anyway, I'd say assassins or even plague priests if you want to kill things, but chieftains should just be defensively built and preferably kept away from the front lines if you need them to live - like your BSB. I find mine always always dies once he's in combat, no matter how much gear I give him! Chaos Warrior stats, my ass!

Yeah it's the Always Strikes first and high init that makes those guys. They're still a bit expensive for my taste, esp after mandatory upgrades. I wish they came standard with a weeping blade for their cost.

I also wish weeping blades could be bought as a pair for an extra cost (like 45 points).

Sword of Anti Heroes and Blade of Corruption are also solid choices for the points.

I've seen the Fell Lord do work. Skaven are already a pretty nightmarish fight for hard target lists, with all the warmachines and redirectors raining wounds down. The existence of a Skaven who can kill the enemy warrior lord if they ever do make it to combat is significant.

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

True, but it's a big gamble. However, stick em on a Bonebreaker and the stick some ROgers around him to soak up wounds, and provide LoS, then get Skweel in the unit and you've got the makings of a serious threat to big ET baddies out there (best to put another Breakerlord with him too, just for good measure).

Warlord on a Bonebreaker is Monstrous Cav, so there's no way to give him a LOS! roll in the entire Skaven army

Which seems pretty Skaven-y frankly

Oh why did I think that Monstrous cav could take LOS from Monstrous infantry? Doy!

Yeah Fellblade is the ultimate 1 trick pony for Skaven

It's also a trick that people can see coming from several miles.
