Just because he describes them as a different faction doesn't mean at one point that the Son'a weren't apart of the dominion. Also the movies aren't the most accurate especially when your evidence is one piece of dialogue from the movie. when in the show the son'a are talked about several times by both sides and on the wiki they are listed as an allies of the dominion in the war. I could see them being a multi faction between independent and dominion.

Either way, we never see the Son'a in the shows, or any of their fleet's mixed in with the dominion fleet, so their fleet must not be that large, what with them being infertile and sterile and all, Probably why Ru'afo has such a hissie fit about just ONE of his ships being destroyed, Son'a crew are practically irreplaceable at this point in their time, and with the Federation sanctions on their slave raids, it's quite clear they don't have the man-power to field a sizable fleet.

Also, the movies are definitely a bad indicator of time. Insurrection was released on Dec. 11 1998, Meaning that the studios had access to the Enterprise E model for the Dominion War, but never used it. There are literally 3 years between Ent E's launch and the events in Insurrection. So that was 3 years that the Enterprise E SHOULD have been seen in some major engagements. You don't leave your most powerful toy at home, you take every advantage you can get.

It wasn't until 2375 that she was relegated to diplomatic engagements.

The discrepancy between DS9 and TNG really irks me for some reason.

As I understand it, the tv series' were not permitted to use the current movie ships.

The Akira class did turn up in some episodes of DS9 though (I was watching them recently.)

Wasn't the Enterprise-E established as participating in different wings of some of the battles? I'm sure I remember hearing, "The Enterprise will lead the 5th fleet...." crop up a couple of times.

The reason you never see a sovereign class ship is the same reason you never see an intrepid. The producers always avoid using ships from the other series in order to avoid confusing the viewers / distracting from the main characters in the show.
If the Enterprise showed up in a DS9 fight scene everyone would want to know have that crew where getting on / what their story was.
I pretty sure the Galaxy class ships only started showing up after generations, so it couldn't be the enterprise.

Back on topic, I'm so excited to see the Akira. Hope they don't bugger up the scale of it.

it's the quiet ones you have to look out for. Their the ones that change the world, the loud ones just take the credit for it.

A Galaxy showed up in Deep Space Nine in a pretty recognizable way in the Season 2 finale (about 5 months or so before Generations), getting itself destroyed even. I agree with the rest of the reasoning though, the Galaxy had been set up throughout TNG and early DS9 as being the next ship of the line for the Federation, so it wasn't a surprise to see it showing up. Having a Sovereign class ship show up, when you have only ever shown the Enterprise as belonging to that class would have been confusing to the casual fan. At least Season 6 and 7 of DS9 got to showcase some of those First Contact ships like the Saber, Akira, and Steamrunner, as well as showing another Intrepid class ship.

I'm sorry everyone, but I couldn't help myself...

"The shuttle began to move slowly away, but on the sunward horizon appeared the unmistakeable silhouette of a Borg Sphere. another came, and another, flying over asteroids and debris far out into the system and blocking the exit of the shuttle. Between them lay the silent, gray, USS Thunderchild. Slowly it moved out of dock then with a deafening roar and whoosh of impulse power it swung about and drove at full speed towards the waiting Borg."

There were ships of shapes and sizes,
Scattered out across the system,
and I thought I heard her calling,
As the shuttle pulled away,
The invaders must have seen them,
As across the stars they flew,
Standing firm between them,
There flew Thunder Child!

Moving swiftly through the heavens,
Phasers blazing as she came,
Brought a mighty Borg starship,
Warp core breaching in sheets of flame,
Sensing victory was nearing,
Thinkin' fortune must have smiled,
People started cheering,
"Come on Thunderchild!"
"Come on thunderchild!"

"The Enemy launched their borg missiles, but the ship sped on, cutting down one of the tripod figures. Instantly, the others fired their phasers and melted the Thunderchild's valiant heart."

Sirens blaring and falling bulkheads,
Cutting Beams pierce the deck,
Dashing hopes for our deliverence,
As we watched the disintegrating wreck,
With the smoke of battle clearing,
Over graves in stars defiled,
Slowly disappearing,
Farewell Thunderchild,
Slowly disappearing,
Farewell Thunderchild,
Farewell Thunderchild,
Farewell Thunder..... Child....

"When the smoke cleared, the little shuttle had reached the edge of the system and Carrie was safe. But the Thunderchild had vanished forever, taking with her Man's last hope for victory. The leaden sky was lit by green flashes, transport beam following transport beam and noone and nothing was left now to fight them. The
Earth belonged to the Borg."

"Sir, there's another starship coming in..."

I admit it the one that made me scream lie a school girl was the Phoneix...I was always upset with the captain ability given to Maxwell. I hope they fix it on this ship.
