so Skarsnik is expensive as a Goblin lord choice, but it is just what less then 300points? That is cheaper then most other lord choices from other armies, and that is what I think should beconsidered. You can field him in 1200 points battles already, what most others can't.
And thebigger the army the more are affected by his evil plans.
He is expensive for what you get, but he has his worth.

Anyway back to the army conception:
Ng must not be solely one thing they win through synergy. NG can be tarpits, distractors, fanatic transports, and may win a close combat against core units if they attack from the side or the rears.
The waagh magic supports the army greatly.

Being a Lord choice or not doesn't bear any inherent value. If a Lord choice is bad, then said choice is bad, whether it's a lord or not. A hero that's better than a lord is always the better choice.

Nope, I actually own twenty fanatics.

I've heard that it's a good idea to run a lot of Night Goblin shamans.. Is that true?

Yes, it is. Level 1 NG shamans might only be lvl 1 casters, but they get +2-6 on their casting roll, making them the most effective lvl 1 casters in the game...stuck with the most balanced lore in the game aka their casting prowess doesn't match their power level.

...however, with End Times, they now have access to a new, more powerful lore, further buffing them.

Lots of cheap yet very effective casters summoning stuff that helps keeping enemies away from your war machines? Yes please.

Wow, 20 Fanatics, well then you need much more units. It alao not wise to have just 3 fanatics in each, some should have only 1 or 2 or even none, or your enemy will find out what to prioritise.
You see you need even more NG. But I'm talking here about storm of Magic super apocalypse battles that start at 5000 pts and end at nowhere. I HAD 30,000 pts battles with just one enemy, where my 30 Fanatics weren't enough.

To finish the Skarsnik topic: He is honestly not that much worth his points, but fun to play and in SoM battleshis evil plans are nice.

To be fair, there's no balance in Storm of Magic games to begin with, so just throw everything in there that you have

So, I just ordered the Monstrous Squig Herd from Forgeworld.I did it both because I love the giant squig models and because when I went to get the NG bosses, they were out of stock at GW. Heck, the Colossal Squig model is the model that made me want to start Night Goblins

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer/ORCS_AND_GOBLINS/MONSTROUS_SQUIG_HERD.html

While they are indeed freaking awesome models to look at. How should I field them tactically? Also, I'm not sure what the two Squigs are.. Rare? Special?

Are they truly that bad rules wise?

I bought them because I fell in love with the models.

Yeah, they're pretty terrible. You can check their rules online...gimme a sec.

Gobba is an immovable 24'' range weapon that cannot be placed near the rest of your army (else it shoots your own models) and the Colossal Squig is a tough model, on paper, that unfortunately isn't even Unbreakable and has only d6 attacks at WS2. You will not win any combat with it on its own and you'll always think "Why didn't I take a Mangler Squig?". I do have two of each, though. Haha.

Actually, I disagree. All NG blocks have the same purpose: tarpit enemies. No NG block will ever win a battle in his own.

Skarsnik isn't cheap in comparison to other Lord Choices as he is very lackluster and cannot hold up to most other lords. But alas, as you said, if you like him, run him.

What makes Skarsnik that bad?

He's on a big base with no saves.

He's not got any defensive capabilities.

He's mediocre, at best, offensively.

He takes up points for level 4s and cheap lords with great weapons.

They do make fantastic proxies for giants and artillery machines, though.
