Isn't the aim skill +10%? I find that my ranged guys always have spare strategy points anyway so an 'extra' one isn't really going to do much good. Skill mastery tends to have high stat requirements so while they are, or at least can be, useful they only really become attainable later on in the campaign.

The skill system just isn't that balanced.

I had Lure of Chaos in my first Possessed warband and I found it unreliable, particularly at high levels.

It does allow you to get multiple free hits though, and it costs half the offense points of Command; I made heavy use of it with my Possessed. All leadership based skills become less effective as the campaign progresses unfortunately.

Depends if they're armed with a gun or not. The other issue is it allows you to move around and shoot for the guys with lighter ranged weapons. The aim boost goes up to about 30% to hit above a normal shot far as I can tell unless I got another upgrade that changed it.

I have already beaten act 2-2 and almost lost due to my own stupidity (seriously one more turn and I would've most likely lost for sure). I sent filch the assassin lord out to kill off a guy with a great weapon and he didn't have much health left. Guy attacks back and stuns him instantly and nobody was nearby to help. It would've been game over after so much time playing that mission. So glad their initiative was crap and I could finish the mission.

Little word of advice when disabling the warpstone skaven lures. You have to put a guy near one and stay stunned for a whole turn. At the start of their next turn stay near the lure with them and fidget around till you stand over the icon that allows you to disable it. For a time I thought I needed to wait to disable them (like I needed an icon or to pray to the horned rat at my cart but that wasn't the case at all.

------

I find skills to be helpful though. Maybe not just one but when you have like 5 of them esp. if a good chunk are mastered they really start to show. Later in the game like now I have money coming out of every orifice in my body practically. I got my last wyrdstone request done with a whole 10 days left to spare. Would you believe I'm only level 2 in reputation (out of 5 level reputation max) with all 3 wyrdstone collectors? I'd probably be farther along if it wasn't for all the shipments they asked for.

Some skills offer huge advantages like if you get the charge range boost you can charge people not just farther away but outside of ambush stance range. You can do the same with ambushes if you wish as skaven tend to have the stats for ambush (high agility). I'm heavily considering doing various other builds like dagger ambush (which is what they tend to be good at according to the description).

Also in case you're wondering there are Passive Skills and Active Skills. Passive ones are always active when the situation arises and activate on their own.

Seriously as I said my assassin adept leader has all his skills pumped heavily into critical hitting the enemy (probably took about 5 skills mastered to get about 50% crit. hit at least depending on the situation but his accuracy helps too). Going through a turn with him without crit'ing is hard to believe though possible and he's pretty potent. I see the guy doing 85 damage whenever he crit's. Then a couple of my high strength guys have the 'overpower' skill which if it hits instantly stuns the enemy. I also have some of my low level shooters with good accuracy with the 'head shot' ability which if it hits also stuns. Last game I played I was stunning enemies left and right. It was pretty ridiculous.

As I said though when you look at skills it's best to have more than one and to combine them with a lot of passive skills to improve how good various things are (like better range of ambush/charge and another better to hit chance of ambush/charge).

The Threadomancy is real, but I couldn't find a newer Mordheim thread.

Anyone else feel that you fail 80%+ tests waaaaay more often then you feasibly should?

Got my Chaos warband clobbered to pieces from not being able to hit anything, followed up by the one time I did hit something it was dodged. Stupid Sisters of Sigmar.

Do you ever see the 'dodge' or 'parry' thing show up after you made an attack? The enemy loves to spam dodges a lot and lots of weapons (great weapons esp.) are more easily dodged. The enemy can only ever make you miss once with a dodge or parry unless they have special abilities that give them up to 2-3 dodges or parries but the computer often doesn't use them. Basically as long as you don't spread out your attacks on multiple enemies at once you should be ok vs their dodges and parries. There are also quite a few attacks that can't be parried (usually impressive units but also stuff like that one big chaos hero that causes fear). Some weapons also offer different abilities like hit boosts, crit. chance and parry or dodge debuffs. Dodges are generally more effective than parries but usually having a shield and armor means you take less damage with your armor (armor negates a % of damage you take depending on a percentage of armor you have) at the cost of being less agile (dodging, jumping, moving, etc. tends to suck more). Sisters and empire esp. have a crap ton of armor whereas skaven and chaos are more t-shirt saves.

The game was hard to understand at first. Perhaps I should've checked the tutorial some more. However in time the stats on each unit and all the stuff on weapons start to make sense.

Bumpity, bump bump, bump.

So update wise, the 4 new hero's have been out a while and a new warband has been released.

Witch Hunters (male sisters of sigmar) come with some reskins for weapons, a fairly dodgy Commander, some unconvincing henchmen and pistol crossbows.

Any body tried them out for more than 1 mission (bad luck got me crushed in a situation I "should" have won).

What are the later champion/impressive like.

So the base game isn't on sale as part of Midweek Madness like the title from last year says? How disappointing.

I played about 5 matches with my high level Mercenary Warband to see if I could fight a high level Witch Hunter warband but didn't encounter any. This weekend I'm going to give them a spin and see what they are made of.

Steam has this game free to play this weekend.
It seems good so far, It's 60% off this weekend too so I think I might pick it up.
Think I'm going to restart though, now I know what I'm doing.
Fix the early mistakes and build a better starting roster.

If the thought of something makes me giggle for longer than 15 seconds, I am to assume that I am not allowed to do it.

I spent a good 5 hours of free-play time on this this weekend.
As long as you know the game of old, and where the randomised bits come from, it looks to be a good game.
